Hawks Open Season Strong at Luther Hill Open, Several Wrestlers Place

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Quincy University men's wrestling team officially opened its 2025–26 season this past Saturday at the Luther Hill Open in Indianola, Iowa, hosted at Blake Fieldhouse. While no team score was kept, the Hawks made a statement to open the year, coming away with three individual champions and numerous top-five placers across both the Freshman/Sophomore and Open divisions. The season debut showcased a promising blend of veteran leadership and young depth, setting a strong tone for the months ahead.

In the Freshman/Sophomore Division, several Hawks wrestled their way to the podium with standout performances. At 141 pounds, Bryce Edwards had an impressive start to the season, finishing second with a 4–1 record that included a fall. The Open Division saw even more success for Quincy's upperclassmen, who turned in a dominant collective performance. Callan Ivy captured the 184-pound championship, going 3–0 with a fall and two major decisions in a commanding run. Hunter Vernon was equally dominant, winning the 165-pound title with a 3–0 record that included a technical fall. At 133 pounds, junior Te'Andre Allen made a statement in his QU debut, winning all three of his matches and posting a technical fall en route to a first-place finish. Judah Yates (197 lbs) and Sabian Russell (149 lbs) both placed second, with Yates earning a technical fall and Russell recording two tech falls and a major decision in his 3–1 outing. The strong weekend also marked a milestone moment for Russell, who surpassed 50 career individual wins during his runner-up finish. Lucas Clement (157 lbs) added a third-place finish after going 3–1 with a fall and a major decision, while Gavin Morawitz (165 lbs) finished fourth and Caleb Groff (285 lbs) placed fifth, winning three matches with both a fall and a major decision.
