Quincy Men’s Bowling Claims First-Ever Tournament Title at Mid-States

WICHITA, Kan. – An unbelievable weekend ended in history for the Quincy University men's bowling team, as the Hawks captured their first-ever tournament title with a remarkable run at the prestigious Mid-States Championship, hosted by Wichita State and Newman University.

The Hawks got off to a slow start on Saturday, finishing 12th after day one and facing an uphill battle to make the cut. But on Sunday, QU came alive. Behind a lineup that averaged just over 200 pins across 16 baker games, including a 258 in their final game, the Hawks secured the eighth and final bracket spot by just three pins.

From there, the Hawks stunned the collegiate bowling world. In the quarterfinals, Quincy upset top-seeded Wichita State, a perennial national powerhouse and co-host of the event, with a 3-1 victory. The Hawks then carried that momentum into the semifinals, sweeping Oklahoma Christian 3-0. In the championship round, QU faced Newman University, the defending Mid-States champions and ranked sixth nationally in tournament power points last season. The Hawks delivered again, earning a 3-1 win to secure the program's first-ever tournament victory at a Tier I event.

"This was an amazing weekend for the QU Hawks bowling program," head coach Kyle Egan said. "I couldn't be any prouder of how these men have prepared and trained for moments like these."

The Hawks relied on the same five-man rotation throughout Sunday's run:

1. Tyler Wojcik

2. Zakery Grosvenor

3. Cayden Thoms

4. Connor Meegan

5. Nathan Massey

With the win, Quincy not only brought home its first-ever men's bowling title but did so against three of the nation's top programs in one of the toughest events of the season, marking a milestone moment for the Hawks.

The Hawks will be back in action on November 1-2, when they travel to St. Charles, Missouri, for the 17th annual Lions Classic.
