Box Score BANNER ELK, Nc. - The Hawks men's volleyball team kept the good times rolling on Monday (Jan. 20), picking up their second victory of the season in as many contests (25-15, 25-20,
25-16)
over the Bobcats of Lee-McRae College for the first sweep of the 2025 campaign.
Aleksandar Sosa led the way for Quincy, collecting nine kills on a red-hot .615 hitting percentage.
Set One
QU opened the match on a 5-0 run, using kills from
AJ Goedheer and Sosa along with Bobcat errors to build the early advantage before pressing ahead even further shortly after, taking 10 of the next 13 points to build a comfortable 15-3 edge.
It was smooth sailing the rest of the way as Quincy used its early lead to coast on to a 25-15 victory in the first set.
Set Two
The Hawks jumped out in front on a pair of
Relja Milosavljevic kills followed by three LMC points before five of the next six points went in favor of QU to put the Hawks ahead 7-4.
The Bobcats worked their way back into the lead later set at 10-8, using a four point run to move ahead 12-10. Quincy responded with five of the next six points on two kills from Sosa, another for Goedheer and blocks for Milosavljevic,
Ljubisa Novakovic and Goedheer to press ahead 15-13.
Shortly after, trailing 17-16, a five point QU run proved to be the difference maker in the set, putting the Hawks ahead 21-17 heading down the stretch and giving Quincy the breathing room it needed to go on and claim the set 25-20 on a
Barnabas Fenyvesi kill.
Set Three
Quincy maintained its fine early-set form in the final frame, quickly compiling a safe 10-3 advantage before adding on even more shortly after. Blocks from
Gunnar Kukkonen and
Zackary Zdrojeski along with aces from Sosa and Fenyvesi plus a Sosa kill pressed QU ahead 15-6.
The Hawks lead swelled to as many as 11 points at the 18-7 mark as QU went on to take the set 25-16 and the match 3-0 for the first sweep of the young season.
