Zdrojeski Leads Hawks to Sweep of SBU

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team picked up a victory on Friday night, sweeping Southwest Baptist University in straight sets inside Meyer Sports Center by scores of 25-14, 25-22, 25-19. The Hawks improved to 9-13 overall and 6-7 in GLVC play with the win.

Quincy jumped out to an early lead in the opening set, scoring seven of the first 10 points behind kills from three different Hawks. Leading 11-7, the Hawks took complete control with a 7-0 run sparked by three straight points from Zackary Zdrojeski, including a pair of service aces. Quincy never looked back from there, cruising to a 25-14 set victory after Zdrojeski put down the final kill of the frame. The Hawks were dominant offensively in the set, hitting .647 with 12 kills on 17 attempts and just one error, while limiting Southwest Baptist to a .167 hitting percentage with seven kills.

The second set started much differently, as Southwest Baptist found an early rhythm and jumped out to a 9-5 lead. Quincy continued to chip away and finally grabbed its first lead of the set at 14-13 after a 3-0 run. The two teams traded points back and forth until the score was tied at 21, but the Hawks closed the set by scoring four of the final five points. Tomas Badan delivered the kill that sealed the 25-21 win and put Quincy up 2-0 in the match. Quincy hit .333 in the set with 10 kills and two errors, while the Bearcats recorded 15 kills but also committed eight errors and hit .189.

The third set remained close early, with Quincy holding a slight 7-6 advantage before a 4-0 run stretched the lead to 11-6 behind three Southwest Baptist errors. The Bearcats answered with a 4-0 run of their own, capitalizing on three Quincy miscues to make things interesting. The Hawks responded late with multiple two and three-point runs to create separation and close out the sweep with a 25-19 victory.
