Hawks Drop Senior Day Match to Missouri S&T in Four Sets

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's volleyball team fell to Missouri S&T for the second straight night on Senior Day inside Pepsi Arena, dropping the match in four sets by scores of 23-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-20. Prior to the match, the Hawks honored seniors Barnabas Fenyvesi, Ryne Jacobsen, Dylan Feely, Trey Severson, Andrew Lichtenberger, and Malachi Allen.

The Hawks and Miners battled point-for-point in the opening set, trading leads and tying the score at 11-11. Barnabas Fenyvesi led the offense early with a pair of kills, while Isaiah Travis and Tomas Badan added key points as Quincy stayed within striking distance late at 22-20. The Hawks closed the set in strong fashion, scoring the final three points to secure a 25-23 victory and take a 1-0 lead in the match. Quincy totaled 18 kills with a .324 hitting percentage in the opening set, while Missouri S&T recorded 14 kills and hit .250.

Missouri S&T responded in the second set, pulling ahead 12-10 before closing the frame on a decisive 6-1 run. Quincy stayed close early behind kills from Malachi Allen, Badan, and Fenyvesi, while both Badan and Fenyvesi added service aces. The Hawks struggled to find offensive rhythm late in the set, however, as Missouri S&T evened the match with a 25-17 victory. Quincy finished the set with eight kills and a .125 hitting percentage, while the Miners hit .350 with nine kills.

The third set belonged to Missouri S&T, as the Miners used several late runs to pull away for a 25-15 win. Quincy remained within striking distance at 13-8 behind kills from Travis and Badan, but the Miners were nearly unstoppable offensively, hitting .548 in the set with 18 kills and only one error. Quincy hit .171 in the set with 11 kills and five errors.

Missouri S&T closed out the match in the fourth set, winning 25-20. Quincy continued to battle behind kills from Fenyvesi, Travis Mendoza, and Badan, while Dylan Feely helped direct the offense and Fenyvesi added another service ace. The Hawks stayed within reach throughout much of the set, but Missouri S&T was able to pull away late to secure the match. Quincy recorded 10 kills in the final frame but hit just .059.

Missouri S&T held a 51-47 edge in kills and recorded seven service aces compared to Quincy's three. The Miners also held advantages in blocks, assists, and digs, finishing with a .315 hitting percentage compared to the Hawks' .177 mark.

Fenyvesi led the Hawks with a career-high 18 kills and added a team-high two service aces. Severson dished out 20 assists, while Badan contributed seven kills and six block assists. Zdrojeski added five kills, and Lichtenberger finished with eight digs. Travis Mendoza chipped in two kills and two blocks in limited action.

The Hawks aim to finish the season on a high note as they travel to Bolivar, Missouri, to take on the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist University inside Meyer Sports Center. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Friday, April 17th.
