Davenport, Iowa - The Quincy University track program opened their 2024-25 winter campaign at the Frigid Bee Invite on Saturday (Dec. 7). The Hawks set up against twelve schools from the tri-state area and posted multiple podium-worthy finishes.
Finley Petty was the lone Hawk on the women's side to compete in Davenport on Saturday. In the mile, Petty ran a 6:36.28 time, good for third place.
Sam Koenig made his debut for the Hawks with a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash, set at 7.16 seconds. He later finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a 23.77, just in front of teammate
Conner Turner who finished at 24.93.
The Hawks saw their initial first place finisher in
Jack Thompson, whose final jump of 6.79 meters pushed past the competition. Fellow Hawk
Jerron Baker made his collegiate debut with a third place finish with his third place-worthy 6.63-meter leap.
Baker set the tone for the Hawks this season with an opening weekend broken record in the triple jump, surpassing Jaired Fyffe's 13.48 meters with a whopping 14-meters even leap.
Evan Caroll rounded out the men's side of competition with his shot put and weight throw tosses. Carroll threw an 11.32-meter shot put and tossed the weight throw 12.75 meters.
The Hawks finished third on the men's side and twelfth on the women's in their first competition of the year. Quincy will return in January for their meet at Central in Pella, Iowa.
