Hawks Compete at Missouri Valley Open

Marshall, Mo. - The Quincy University women's wrestling team was back in action at the Missouri Valley Open over the weekend as Maddy Barton came away with the Hawks top finish, winning six of her eight matches en route to a fourth-place finish in the 138 division.

Barton, who currently ranks inside the top 20 nationally in the 138lb division, picked up a tech fall, injury default victory and a decision on her way to a quarterfinal match up. After dropping the quarterfinal to Samantha Barragan of Texas Wesleyan, Barton picked up an 8-1 decision in the next round before defeating nationally ranked contender Viktorya Torres of McKendree by fall. A decision victory in the next round sent Barton to the third-place match, where the Hawks' 138-pounder was done in by another nationally ranked foe in Nichole Moore of Fort Hays State by tech fall to finish fourth.

Other notable performances included Sereena Baca and Mackenzie Graves four-win efforts with five falls, two techs and a decision between the pair. Both
Baca and Graves faced nationally ranked competition as the two losses for Baca came against the #4 and #10 wrestlers in the country while Graves picked up a win against national contender, Juliana Alexjandro of Tiffin. Abby Rhodes picked up a trio of falls in the 131 division and Valeria Rodriguez used two tech's and a decision to record three victories in the 160 division.

QU is back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 3 for a match up with Aurora University. The action from Aurora, IL is slated for a 5:00 PM start time.
