Biography

2024-25 (Sophomore): In her sophomore season, Jayla had a podium finish at the Luther College Open for the second consecutive season, finishing in sixth place in the 180 division. She also finished in fifth place in the 160 B division at the North Central Open, where she earned four wins.

2023-24 (Freshman): In the Luther College Open, Jones picked up a fifth-place finish in the 191 division, where she recorded two wins, one by fall. She also had a sixth-place finish in the 170 division at the MBU Open and a seventh-place finish in the 170 division at the NCWWC Region V Tournament.

Personal: Hailing from Saint Louis, MO, Jayla Jones attended Lafayette High School, where she was a standout student-athlete for the Lancers. Jayla is the daughter of Lashonda Miller and has two siblings, Jackie Redden and Javontay Jones. Academically, she earned Academic All-State honors, highlighting her dedication both in the classroom and on the mat.

In wrestling, Jayla achieved remarkable success. She placed 3rd at State, earned All-American honors, and set records for the most wins and pins in a season. She was named Athlete of the Month and received the prestigious Wrestling Lancer of the Year award. Her team also secured two runner-up finishes and a 3rd place finish at the State Championships.

Outside of wrestling, she enjoys lifting, reading books, and traveling. Her favorite athletes include Tamyra Mensah-Stock, Simone Biles, and Kobe Bryant. She is also a passionate supporter of the Chicago Bulls.

I chose QU because it offers a lot of resources and opportunities to help students academic and athletic goals. My coaches provided an environment I know, and I will grow as a woman and athlete.
