Exciting Finish for the Hawks Home Slate

Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University men's soccer team closed out their time at Jack Mackenzie Field this season with a comeback tie on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 27) to the Lincoln University Blue Tigers.

The Hawks went under in the first half after two Blue Tigers tap-in goals. Goalkeeper George Roke made some key saves for the Hawks, but with the wind going toward the Hawks' defensive goal, it was hard for the Hawks to spend time on the other end of the field.

Just two minutes into the second half, the Blue Tigers got booked with a straight red card, forcing them to play a man down for the remainder of the game. The Hawks took advantage as Gavin Higgins scored a header off a Carlos Moreno Henao cross.

The Hawks battled down a goal for the next 25 minutes before Joao Pedro Amaral sent the ball into the net off an unfortunate deflection on the Blue Tigers. with just 15 minutes to go, the Hawks tied things up and still had a one-man advantage.

The Blue Tigers took the lead on a missile to the back post with less than two minutes to go in the game. The Hawks responded swiftly with Moreno Henao ripping a shot off a Blue Tigers' header back to the top of the box to put the Hawks back in the game with just 59 seconds to go.

The Hawks had one more opportunity with a free kick inn the final 2 seconds in the game, but could not get a shot on frame before the buzzer rang.

Roke finished the game with four saves.

The Hawks sit tied for 9th place with Lincoln and will need a win next weekend to make it into the top eight for the conference tournament. Quincy will face McKendree and Maryville on the road to finish out the regular season.

The Hawks celebrated seniors Marcel Kaspar, Stan Cargill, Gavin Higgins, Ethan Morgan, and Keegan Klingele prior to today's game.
