QUINCY, Ill. –
Aysem Kocaalp of Quincy University women's volleyball has been named the QU Toyota Star of the Week after helping the Hawks to a perfect 4-0 weekend at the CBU Patriot Day Classic in Memphis, Tennessee.
Quincy extended its winning streak to eight matches with victories over LeMoyne-Owen, Miles, Southern New Hampshire and Christian Brothers. The Hawks swept their first two opponents before closing the weekend with back-to-back four-set victories.
Kocaalp was a force on both sides of the ball throughout the tournament, totaling 47 kills across 14 sets for an average of 3.36 kills per set while hitting .294. She also collected 40 digs (2.86 per set), nine service aces, seven assists and two blocks. Kocaalp finished the four-match weekend with 57.5 total points, averaging 4.11 points per set, while recording two double-doubles.
She opened the weekend with one of her most efficient performances of the season in Quincy's sweep of LeMoyne-Owen. Kocaalp put down 12 kills with just two errors on 19 attempts, hitting .526 in the three-set victory.
Kocaalp followed that performance by recording the first double-double of her collegiate career in a 3-0 victory over Miles, finishing with 13 kills and 12 digs
After helping the Hawks to a 3-1 victory over Southern New Hampshire, Kocaalp closed out the tournament with another strong all-around performance against host Christian Brothers. She tallied 14 kills and a season-high 18 digs for her second double-double of the weekend as Quincy completed the perfect 4-0 trip.
Through 12 matches and 39 sets this season, Kocaalp has totaled 120 kills and is averaging 3.08 kills per set while hitting .214. She has also recorded 22 service aces, 78 digs, eight blocks and 146.5 total points, averaging 3.76 points per set.
The Hawks will now turn their attention to Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a challenging road trip to open the league schedule. Quincy travels to Romeoville, Illinois, to face Lewis on Friday at 6 PM before taking on No. 24 Indianapolis on Saturday at 2 PM.
