QUINCY, Ill - Quincy University has been picked third in the 2026 Midwest Sprint Football League (MSFL) preseason poll. The Hawks are ready to build on the momentum heading into the new season and will compete for the top spot in the MSFL. 

Head coach Kirkland Burton enters his third season with the Hawks and second season as head coach. Last year brought valuable experience which will carry over into the upcoming season as many returners step onto the field for fresh opportunities while embracing leadership roles for the team.

Looking at some returning players, Donnell Packer put together one of the strongest defensive seasons in program history last year by setting a single-season record with 85 tackles. He earned First Team All-MSFL recognition and will be a playmaker for the Hawks as he returns for his senior season. 

Deuce Allaway appeared in all seven games last season and finished with 58 rushing yards while contributing 324 passing yards. He'll be returning as a senior along with Kaden Buchholz who finished last season with 50 tackles and a team high of 11.5 tackles for loss. Buchholz earned himself First Team All-MSLF honors and will be a steady line of defense for his teammates. 

Logan Cannady is another key returner entering his senior season who made his way on the First Team All-MSFL honors in 2025 after recording 28 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks, making him an important piece for the Hawks upcoming schedule. 

In addition, Evan Lopez returns after a productive season with 14 receptions and 177 yards as well as Jensen Laughlin who averaged 37.92 yards on 25 punts and earned himself First Team All-MSFL special teams honors.

The Hawks have several players returning who bring experience and leadership as they prepare for the first game of the season on Saturday, September 12 at 11:00 AM hosted by Quincy.
