Quincy Falls on Senior Day Against St. Mary-of-the-Woods

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University sprint football team dropped its Senior Day contest on Friday night, falling 47–20 to undefeated St. Mary-of-the-Woods at QU Stadium. The Hawks honored seniors Noah Getz, Nicholas Hoffman, Nick Manzo, Anthony Rivas, John Sessions, Trayton Anders, and CJ Jackson prior to kickoff.

The Pomeroys built a commanding 23–0 lead after the first quarter, including a defensive safety. Quincy answered in the second quarter when Deuce Allaway connected with Nolan Gooding on a 33-yard touchdown pass, cutting the deficit to 23–6. The Hawks went into halftime trailing 37–6 after two more SMWC scores.

In the third quarter, the Pomeroys added a touchdown and a field goal to extend their advantage to 47–6. Quincy closed strong in the fourth, as Harold Williams powered in from one yard out to finish an eight-play, 75-yard drive, and Ethen Harrison capped a short drive with a seven-yard rushing touchdown. The Hawks outscored their opponent 14–0 in the final period to bring the score to 47–20.

Statistically, St. Mary-of-the-Woods finished with a clear edge in total offense, outgaining Quincy 476–268. The Pomeroys leaned on the run game with 286 rushing yards at 7.7 yards per carry, while Quincy was held to 103 rushing yards at 3.0 per attempt. Through the air, the Hawks were competitive, throwing for 165 yards compared to 190 for the visitors. One of the biggest differences came on third down, where the Pomeroys converted 10 of 20, while Quincy managed just 2 of 10. 

Individually, Allaway threw for 74 yards and a touchdown, while Harrison added 91 passing yards and 49 rushing yards with a score. Jackson carried 16 times for 36 yards, and Williams added a one-yard rushing touchdown. In the receiving game, Gooding hauled in a 33-yard touchdown catch, while Travon Hegler-Wright led with 58 yards.

Defensively, Hoffman paced the Hawks with nine tackles, while Donnell Packer chipped in eight stops and two pass breakups. Kyron Dunae was a force up front, recording four tackles for loss and a sack.

The Hawks will wrap up the season on Saturday, November 1st, traveling to Oakland City to face the Mighty Oaks. Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM from Wood Memorial High School.
