Personal: Jonathan Sessions, from Little Rock, Arkansas, is a graduate of North Little Rock High School, where he was a standout in both football and wrestling for the Charging Wildcats. His high school career was filled with leadership and accomplishments. He was captain of the wrestling team during his junior (2019–20) and senior (2020–21) years, as well as a football captain as a senior. On the football field, he helped lead North Little Rock to three consecutive 7A state championship game appearances, earning a 7A conference championship in 2018 and finishing as state runner-up in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Despite not capturing a state title, Jonathan played a key role in one of the most competitive stretches in school history, with five of his losses coming to the same powerhouse program in those championship and conference games.
On the mat, Jonathan built a record-breaking career. He was a three-time state qualifier and earned all-conference honors as both a junior and senior. He also left his mark in the record book, holding school records for most matches in a season, most escapes, and most reversals, while ranking in the top 10 for takedowns and matches won. He compiled a .679 career winning percentage and placed in the regional qualifying tournament his senior year, which earned him a spot on the Arkansas National Wrestling Team to represent the state at nationals. He became the first wrestler in North Little Rock history to sign an athletic scholarship, beginning his college career at Hannibal-LaGrange before transferring to QU.
Jonathan’s work ethic earned him numerous team awards, including Most Dedicated Wrestler for three straight years in high school. At QU, he was recognized with the Champions of Character Award in sprint football. He also excelled academically, graduating from high school with a 3.5 GPA and National Honor Society honors.
Sports run in the family as his father, Ray, played football at the University of Central Arkansas, where he was a four-time Academic All-American, an all-conference center, and a senior-year captain. His parents are Ray and Sandra Sessions, and he has four sisters: Bethany, Brittany, Bailey, and Brooklyn.
Outside of athletics, Jonathan enjoys hanging out with friends and watching sports. His favorite athletes include Peyton Manning, Derrick Henry, Aaron Judge, Nick Saban, and Bryce Young, and he supports the Alabama Crimson Tide, Ole Miss Rebels, New York Yankees, and Tennessee Titans. Looking to the future, Jonathan plans to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a coach, with the goal of serving as a GA in college football after graduation.
Why QU?
I chose QU because of the great coaching staff and to be able to move in the right direction for my future.
