ROLLA, Mo. – The Quincy University baseball team continued its red-hot stretch on Friday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from Missouri S&T with a 13–5 victory in game one followed by an 11–1 win in game two. The Hawks have now won nine straight games and remain perfect in GLVC play at 6-0, while improving to 17-5 overall. Quincy's offense continued its explosive run, scoring in double digits in both contests, including the 11th and 12th times this season the Hawks have reached 10 or more runs.
Game 1: Quincy 13, Missouri S&T 5
Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings before the Hawks broke through in the third inning.
Joe Huffman then ripped a double to right-center to put runners in scoring position.
Payton Mansfield drove in the first run of the game with a groundout, and
Isaiah Fudge followed with an RBI single to left field. With two runners aboard,
Harry Fandre delivered a two-run double to center field, capping a four-run inning and giving Quincy a 4–0 lead.
Quincy added another run in the fourth inning when Figuereo launched his first career home run to center field, extending the lead to 5–0. Missouri S&T responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning after taking advantage of a pair of defensive miscues by the Hawks to cut the deficit to 5–2.
The Hawks answered right back in the fifth inning as Fandre drove in another run with his third triple of the season to push the lead to 6-2.
Missouri S&T plated a run in the sixth inning to make it 6–3, but Quincy continued to apply pressure. In the seventh inning, Mansfield reached with a single before Fudge doubled down the left-field line to set up another scoring opportunity. Fandre brought Mansfield home with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 7–3.
Quincy broke the game open in the eighth inning.
Quinn Schultz walked to start the frame, and Dahlof followed with a single before the Hawks loaded the bases. Mansfield drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in a run, and Fudge followed with another walk to force in a second run.
David Broughton added a sacrifice fly to stretch the lead to 10–3. Missouri S&T responded with two runs in the bottom half, but Quincy added three more runs in the ninth inning, highlighted by Dahlof stealing home on a throw down to second base, and additional runs scoring on a hit-by-pitch and a walk with the bases loaded to secure the 13–5 victory.
Roman Harrison earned the win on the mound, improving to 3-1 after tossing five innings while allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits with three strikeouts.
Matt Miscik followed with three innings of relief, striking out four, and
Dylan Graw closed the game with a scoreless ninth inning.
Offensively, Figuereo led the Hawks with a 3-for-5 performance, scoring four runs and hitting his first career home run while recording his 10th multi-hit game and third three-hit game of the season. Fudge finished a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored while surpassing 50 career RBIs and extending his hitting streak to 14 games. Mansfield collected two hits and two RBIs while drawing his 100th career walk, while Dahlof added two hits for his ninth multi-hit game of the year. Huffman extended his hitting streak to 11 games, and Fandre recorded two hits and four RBIs while extending his hitting streak to six games and driving in a run for the fifth time in the last six games.
Game 2: Quincy 11, Missouri S&T 1
The Hawks wasted no time carrying that momentum into game two, erupting for four runs in the opening inning. Figuereo reached on an error and quickly stole second before Mansfield drove him in with an RBI double down the left-field line. Fudge followed with an RBI double of his own, and two Missouri S&T errors allowed the Hawks to extend the inning and take a 4–0 lead.
Quincy added another run in the second inning after Dahlof singled and both he and Figuereo stole bases to move into scoring position. Huffman drove in Dahlof with a groundout to make it 5–0. The Hawks added to the lead in the third inning when Fudge launched a solo home run to right field, pushing the advantage to 6–0.
In the fourth inning,
Ari Fivelson reached base before Figuereo delivered a double to left-center to put runners in scoring position. Huffman followed with a two-run single to left field to extend the lead to 8–0.
The decisive moment came in the sixth inning. Fivelson reached on an error and Figuereo singled to put two runners on base before Huffman blasted a three-run home run to left field, stretching the lead to 11–0. Missouri S&T managed its only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly, but that would be the Miners' lone run of the afternoon as the Hawks secured the 11–1 victory to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Rocco Conrad delivered another strong outing on the mound, earning his fourth straight victory of the season. Conrad worked six innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out nine and lowering his season ERA to 3.00.
Quinn Schultz finished the game with a scoreless seventh inning in relief.
Figuereo once again led the offense, finishing 3-for-4 with three runs scored for his 11th multi-hit game of the season and fourth three-hit performance. He also stole two bases, marking his third consecutive game with multiple stolen bases and sixth game this season with at least two steals. Huffman recorded two hits and six RBIs, including the three-run home run in the sixth inning, marking the third time in his career he has driven in six runs in a game. Fudge added two hits and two RBIs while extending his hitting streak to 15 games, while Fandre added a hit to extend his hitting streak to seven games.
Quincy will be back in action tomorrow for another doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM as the Hawks look to complete their fourth series sweep of the season.
