Hawks Snap 12-Game Skid vs. Flyers with Statement Home Win

QUINCY, Ill. – Quincy University delivered one of its biggest wins of the season Thursday night, defeating Lewis University 76-66 inside Pepsi Arena. The victory snapped a 12-game losing streak to the Flyers and marked Quincy's first win over Lewis since its upset in the 2016 GLVC Tournament semifinals.

The Hawks' offensive efficiency proved decisive, as Quincy shot 53.8 percent from the field and placed five players in double figures. The 76 points were just the third time this season Lewis has allowed more than 75, highlighting the Hawks' ability to break through one of the GLVC's top defensive units.

Both teams opened with sharp shooting, trading baskets early while hitting four of their first six attempts. Lewis surged ahead with a 9-0 run to build a 19-8 advantage, but Quincy answered late. A momentum-stopping three from Maddie Casey helped the Hawks close the quarter on an 8-4 run, trimming the deficit to 23-16. Lewis shot 10-of-15 in the period, while Quincy went 7-of-14.

Quincy seized control of the momentum in the opening minutes, using an 8-2 run to pull within one at 25-24 behind triples from Casey and Reagan Reed. After Lewis rebuilt a five-point edge, Karly Peters scored five straight points, and Acheampomaa Danso converted a three-point play in the closing seconds to give the Hawks their first lead since early in the first quarter, 36-33 at halftime. Quincy shot 7-of-9 in the quarter, including 3-of-3 from deep, while Lewis was limited to 3-of-13.

The second half turned into a possession-by-possession battle. Quincy maintained a narrow edge midway through the period and carried a 51-48 lead into the final quarter as neither team could create separation.

The teams continued trading blows early in the fourth, with Lewis narrowly outscoring Quincy 12-11 over the first five minutes. Danso then sparked a decisive stretch with four points, helping the Hawks extend the lead to 69-62 with 2:45 remaining. Lewis cut the margin back down to three, but Quincy closed the game on a 7-0 run to secure the 76-66 victory.

Quincy's 53.8 percent shooting marked the seventh time this season the Hawks have shot above 50 percent. The teams were even in rebounding, turnovers, three-pointers (5-5), and free throws (15-15), but Quincy's ball movement stood out with a season-high 22 assists on 28 made baskets. The Hawks also received a major boost from the bench, which contributed 27 points.

Danso led Quincy with 18 points, her third straight game in double figures. Harden added 17 points in just 12 minutes on 7-of-9 shooting, while Peters filled the stat sheet with 15 points, five assists, five steals, and four rebounds. Reed contributed 11 points, and Casey recorded the best game of her freshman season with 10 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, all season-highs.

Lewis was paced by Mallory Ramage's 18 points. Jasmine Jones provided an efficient scoring lift off the bench, but the Flyers struggled to find a consistent offensive rhythm.

The victory moves Quincy closer to clinching a GLVC Tournament berth for the second straight season. The Hawks close the regular season Saturday on the road at Indianapolis, a team they defeated 71-58 earlier this season.
