Hawks Rally Late to Clinch GLVC Tournament Berth with 75-73 Win at UIndy

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Quincy University closed the regular season in dramatic fashion Saturday afternoon, erasing a late deficit to defeat the University of Indianapolis 75-73 and clinch a berth in the GLVC Tournament. The Hawks trailed for more than 80 percent of the contest but delivered a poised late-game push to secure their fourth straight victory over the Greyhounds.

The opening quarter featured tight, back-and-forth action with Indianapolis holding a narrow advantage most of the period. The Greyhounds led 11-9 midway through the frame and carried a 19-16 lead into the second quarter. Neither offense found early rhythm, as Quincy shot 35.7 percent from the field, while UIndy used four three-pointers to maintain its edge.

Indianapolis extended its lead in the second quarter, pushing the margin to 31-25 while converting at the free-throw line. Acheampomaa Danso continued to keep the Hawks within striking distance with strong play inside, but a three-minute scoring drought slowed Quincy's momentum. The Greyhounds closed the half on an 8-3 run and went a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line in the quarter to take a 39-30 advantage into halftime.

Quincy responded coming out of the locker room, knocking down a pair of three-pointers early in the third quarter to cut the deficit to two possessions. The teams traded baskets throughout the period before a three-pointer at the buzzer from Karly Peters ignited momentum for the Hawks, trimming the deficit to 56-53 entering the final quarter. Quincy shot 50 percent in the third and connected on four triples to stay within reach.

The Hawks seized control early in the fourth quarter, using an 8-4 run to reclaim their first lead since the opening minutes at 61-60 with just over six minutes remaining. Indianapolis answered to regain a 70-67 advantage, but Peters delivered a clutch three-pointer to tie the game with just over a minute to play. After two missed Greyhound free throws, Danso scored inside with 27 seconds remaining to give Quincy the lead. The Hawks then secured the win at the free-throw line and closed out the 75-73 victory.

Quincy shot 47.3 percent from the field and knocked down 10 three-pointers, while Indianapolis finished at 37.5 percent overall. The Greyhounds were efficient from the line, hitting 20-of-26 free throws, but Quincy controlled the glass 36-31 and scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback.

Danso led the Hawks with a career-high 21 points and six rebounds. Katey Flynn added 14 points, six rebounds, and three blocks, while Karly Peters finished with 12 points, including the pivotal late three-pointer. Reagan Reed chipped in nine points and four assists as Quincy placed four players in double figures.

With the win, Quincy secures the No. 7 seed in the GLVC Tournament and will face No. 2 seed Maryville on Thursday, March 5, at 2:15 PM inside the Mark Twain Building on the campus of Missouri–St. Louis.
