Hawks Close Regular Season at Truman With Top-Four Seed on the Line

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team closes the 2026 regular season on Wednesday, October 21, traveling to Kirksville, Missouri, for a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup against Truman State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 PM at Stokes Stadium.

Quincy enters the finale at 7-3-6 overall and 7-2-4 in GLVC play following a dominant 6-0 road victory over Lincoln on Sunday. Truman State enters at 5-5-5 overall and 4-4-4 in conference action after battling Lewis to a scoreless draw.

The Hawks have already secured their second consecutive GLVC Tournament appearance, but plenty remains on the line Wednesday. Quincy sits fourth in the conference with 25 points and controls an opportunity to strengthen its position for a top-four seed and a home GLVC quarterfinal.

Last Time Out

Quincy continued its late-season surge Sunday with a 6-0 victory over Lincoln in Jefferson City.

Rebecca Rheinheimer wasted little time putting the Hawks in front, scoring just 1:56 into the match.

She struck again in the ninth minute off assists from Jessie Newton and Daniella Segall before completing her second hat trick of the season at 19:50 on another assist from Newton.

Lincoln scored an own goal late in the first half, sending Quincy into the break with a commanding 4-0 advantage.

The Hawks continued to control play after halftime.

Claudia Andreu scored her first goal in a Quincy uniform in the 73rd minute off Newton's third assist of the afternoon. Lucy Thomas completed the scoring in the 86th minute, finishing a chance created by Ashley Davis.

Quincy finished with a 22-4 advantage in shots, a 15-3 edge in shots on goal and a 17-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Hawks were particularly dominant after halftime, holding Lincoln to one shot while earning 13 of their 17 corners.

Goalkeeper Libby Kamp played all 90 minutes and made three saves to secure the shutout.

Rheinheimer Continues Torrid Scoring Run

Rheinheimer enters the regular-season finale playing some of the best soccer of her Quincy career.

The senior has scored eight goals over the last three matches, including hat tricks against Southwest Baptist and Lincoln and a two-goal performance against Upper Iowa. She now leads the Hawks with 15 goals and 32 points while also recording four game-winning goals.

Her recent run earned Rheinheimer GLVC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the third time in her career, followed by recognition as the D2CIDA Women's Soccer National Player of the Week.

Rheinheimer's scoring surge has helped Quincy win three consecutive matches while outscoring its opponents 16-1 during that stretch.

Newton Continues Record-Breaking Season

While Rheinheimer has provided the finishing touch, Newton continues to create opportunities at a record-setting pace.

The senior enters Wednesday with 17 assists, extending the Quincy single-season record she broke against Upper Iowa.

Newton leads NCAA Division II in total assists and holds a sizable advantage atop the GLVC, with the next-highest conference total sitting at six. She has also scored four goals, giving her 25 total points this season.

Newton has recorded six assists during Quincy's three-game winning streak, including three in Sunday's victory over Lincoln.

Together, Rheinheimer and Newton have been at the center of a Quincy attack that has found another gear during the final weeks of the regular season.

Top-Four Seed Within Reach

Although Quincy has already secured its place in the GLVC Tournament, Wednesday's result could determine whether postseason soccer returns to Quincy.

The Hawks enter the final day of their regular season in fourth place with 25 points, one point behind Missouri S&T and one ahead of Maryville.

A victory over Truman would move Quincy to 28 points. That number is significant in the race for a top-four seed.

Rockhurst can finish with a maximum of 28 points, but Quincy holds the tiebreaker over RU.

Maryville currently has 24 points with two matches remaining. A 1-0-1 finish would also move the Saints to 28 points, but Quincy owns the tiebreaker against Maryville as well.

Maryville would need to win both remaining matches and reach 30 points to finish outright ahead of a 28-point Quincy.

As a result, a Quincy victory Wednesday combined with Maryville failing to win both of its remaining matches would guarantee the Hawks a top-four seed and a home GLVC Tournament quarterfinal.

A draw or loss would leave Quincy more dependent on results around the league.

The top eight teams qualify for the GLVC Tournament, while the top four seeds host the opening round.

Hawks Defense Remains Strong

Quincy's offensive explosion has attracted plenty of attention recently, but the Hawks have remained equally effective defensively.

Quincy has posted consecutive shutouts against Upper Iowa and Lincoln while allowing just one goal during its current three-match winning streak.

Kamp has handled the goalkeeping duties during the stretch and recorded three saves in each of the last two matches.

The Hawks will look to continue that form against a Truman side that has scored 19 goals through 15 matches.

Scouting Truman State

Truman enters Wednesday at 5-5-5 overall and 4-4-4 in GLVC play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 0-0 draw against Lewis.

Lewis finished with a 16-9 advantage in shots, but Truman limited the Flyers to four attempts on goal. Goalkeeper Mikayla Thomas stopped all four to preserve the clean sheet.

The Bulldogs have scored 19 goals while allowing 19 this season, averaging approximately 1.27 goals and 12.2 shots per match.

Lizzy Peng leads the attack with three goals and two assists. Quinn Nauman has added two goals and two assists, while Truman's offensive production has been distributed throughout the roster.

Thomas anchors the defense with 61 saves and five shutouts in 13 appearances.

Truman returned much of its offensive production from the 2025 season, bringing back players responsible for 17 of its 21 goals, 13 of 14 assists and 47 of 56 points.

The Bulldogs finished last season 5-6-5 overall and 5-5-4 in conference play and were selected 10th in the 2026 GLVC preseason coaches poll.

Head coach Mike Cannon is in his 34th season leading the program.

Truman Fighting for Tournament Position

Wednesday carries major postseason significance for the Bulldogs as well.

Truman enters the match in 10th place with 16 points, two points behind Illinois Springfield for the eighth and final GLVC Tournament position.

Unlike Quincy, Wednesday will not be Truman's regular-season finale. The Bulldogs will still travel to Indianapolis on Saturday, giving them two remaining opportunities to earn points and push into the tournament field.

That adds another layer to Wednesday's matchup, with Quincy pursuing a home postseason match while Truman fights to keep its tournament hopes alive.

Series History

Truman State holds a 16-14-6 advantage in the series dating back to 1984.

Quincy snapped a lengthy drought in the matchup last season with a 2-0 victory at Jack Mackenzie Field, its first win over Truman since 2018.

Abbie Martin opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, recording her first collegiate goal off an assist from Emma Tell. Former Hawk Ella Wolfard doubled the advantage in the 57th minute.

Goalkeeper Devin Tracy earned her fifth shutout of the season as the Hawks kept Truman from recording a shot on goal.

Wednesday presents another historical opportunity for Quincy. The Hawks have not won in Kirksville since 1998 and will look to change that while completing their strongest regular-season finish in recent years.

Matchup Outlook

Quincy enters Wednesday with significant momentum.

The Hawks have won three straight matches, scored 16 goals during that span and received elite production from Rheinheimer and Newton.

Truman presents a different challenge, particularly on its home field and with its postseason hopes still alive.

The Bulldogs have shown an ability to keep matches close, including their scoreless result against Lewis, and Thomas gives Truman an experienced presence in goal.

For Quincy, the task is straightforward: continue the attacking form that has produced 13 goals over the last two matches while maintaining the defensive organization that has resulted in back-to-back clean sheets.

Three points would move the Hawks to 28 and put them in excellent position to secure a top-four seed and bring GLVC Tournament soccer back home.

Kickoff between Quincy and Truman State is scheduled for 5 PM Wednesday at Stokes Stadium in Kirksville, Missouri.
