SPRINGFIELD, Ill.— The Quincy University women's soccer team earned an impressive 3-1 road victory over GLVC opponent University of Illinois Springfield on Friday evening at Kiwanis Stadium.
The Hawks wasted no time getting on the board, as
Alyssa Amaral netted her first career collegiate goal just 1:30 into the match off an assist from
Jessie Newton. Quincy kept applying pressure, and at the 11:42 mark,
Rebecca Rheinheimer tallied her first goal of the season to extend the lead to 2-0.
Less than five minutes later,
Ella Wolfard finished a pass from Newton for her first goal of the night at 15:49, giving Quincy a commanding 3-0 advantage. Wolfard nearly struck again before halftime as the Hawks outshot UIS 9-2 in the opening 45 minutes, with eight of those shots on target.
Quincy used the second half to rotate in fresh legs while maintaining control of the match.
Gracie Vierra,
Dache Johnson,
Faith Niebrugge, and
Emma Tell each recorded scoring opportunities, forcing the Prairie Stars' defense to stay active. UIS managed one goal in the second half, but the Hawks closed out the 3-1 win to pick up their first GLVC victory of the season.
The Hawks wrap up their three-match road trip with a visit to the University of Indianapolis on Sunday, Sept. 21, at noon EST inside Key Stadium.
