QUINCY, Ill. — A tough start proved costly for the Quincy University men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon (April 19) as the Hawks fell 15-6 to the University of Indianapolis in Great Lakes Valley Conference action at QU Stadium.
The Hawks fell behind early, trailing 8-2 after the opening frame. Despite the slow start, Quincy responded well and competed throughout the remainder of the matchup, highlighted by a multi-goal performance from sophomore Mason Luoma.
Luoma got Quincy on the board at the 6:03 mark of the first, finishing off a pass from Caleb Hensley. Less than two minutes later, Caidyn Prediger found the back of the net off a setup from Eli Cowan, trimming the early deficit before UIndy surged ahead to close the frame.
The Hawks continued to battle in the second. Luoma struck again midway through, capitalizing on a sharp feed from Prediger at 5:55. While Indianapolis extended its lead heading into halftime, Quincy maintained pressure on both ends of the field.
QU then turned in its best stretch of the afternoon in the third, outscoring the Greyhounds 2-0. Luoma completed his hat trick at 6:29 with an unassisted strike. In the final seconds of the frame, Jameson Essen added another for the home side, converting off a Prediger assist with just five ticks on the clock to make it 11-5.
In the fourth, Caleb Hensley added Quincy's final tally of the afternoon at 9:24, scoring his fifth goal of the season on a clean assist from Colin Usher.
Austin Vetter anchored the Hawks in goal with an impressive 18 saves, while Luoma led the offense with his three-goal performance.
