Hawks Fall to Ohio State in Straight Sets

QUINCY, Ill. - The Hawks were back at home to take on the Buckeyes of Ohio State University. OSU got the best of the Hawks, taking the match in three sets (21-25, 19-25, 18-25).

SET ONE

Quincy got off to a hot start, scoring the first four points of the game courtesy of a kill from Aleksandar Sosa and two service aces from AJ Goedheer. Ohio State quickly answered back with two straight kills for their first points.

Despite the Buckeyes falling behind early, they continued to trade two points for one and then scored three straight points to take a 14-10 lead halfway through the set.

Quincy bounced back and got the deficit down to one after Zackary Zdrojeski and Sosa put two kills together. However, OSU continued to stay strong, keeping a consistent 2-3 point lead, and wrapped up set one with two straight kills to take set one 25-21. The Buckeyes hit 0.471 to end set one with 19 kills, compared to Quincy who hit 0.419 with 14 kills.

SET TWO

Set two started with a 2-0 lead for Ohio State after two big swings from the Buckeyes outside hitters. Quincy struggled to limit the Buckeye attack, falling behind 7-3 early in set two.

After the Hawks fell behind by four, they were unable to get the deficit under two points as they struggled with their own mistakes. Quincy hit 0.222 with five errors and had six service errors to go along with it.

The Hawks's longest run of the set was two points, and the Buckeyes ended set two with a kill from their lead attacker, taking set two with a final of 25-19.

SET THREE

The third set was very similar to set two, as Ohio State found themselves with a 5-2 lead. A quick kill from the Hawks setter Dylan Feely and a service error brought the Hawks back to within two at 10-8.

Three straight points and a service error from the Hawks had the Buckeyes quickly back up by five points, 14-9 halfway through set three. Multiple kills from Sosa kept the Hawks in set three, but the Buckeyes were too much for Quincy, as the consistent swings from all parts of the court kept their lead until the end of set three.

A big swing from the Buckeye middle blocker put an end to set three at 25-18. For the second set, OSU hit above 0.400 at 0.444 with only two errors, while the Hawks only hit 0.188 with seven errors.

The Hawks will be back at home for the final game of this season tomorrow night, celebrating the senior class at Pepsi Arena. They will look for revenge as the Buckeyes are back in town, with set one beginning at 5:00 PM CDT.
