Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. - Less than 24 hours removed from a marathon five-set match at No. 13 Lewis, the Hawks were dealt another strong MIVA opponent in No. 7 Loyola Chicago, facing the Ramblers for the second time in eight days.
This time around, QU was able to steal a set from the 13-1 Ramblers, one of only 12 sets LUC has dropped in its 14 matches this season. In the end, Loyola dealt the Hawks a 16-25, 17-25, 25-21, 19-25 loss in four.
Relja Milosavljevic led the way for Quincy with 11 kills, a new career-high for the Kraljevo, Serbia native. In addition, Milosavljevic collected six blocks to help maintain his stellar blocks per set average this season, a department he was ranked third in all of DI in as of February, 20.
Set One
Aleksandar Sosa got the Hawks on the board with one of his 10 kills in the match as the sides split the first eight points of the set to a 4-4 draw before the Ramblers delivered the deciding blow of the set.
A seven-point Loyola run blew the set open at 11-4, and found QU chasing for the rest of the way as the Hawks were unable to close the gap in a 16-25 defeat in the first frame.
Set Two
LUC jumped out to a 5-1 advantage, taking the early initiative until a pair of
Barnabas Fenyvesi kills and a Ramblers errors later in the set pulled Quincy within three at 7-10.
Loyola answered with a trio of two-point swings to press its lead to 16-9. QU was able to trim the deficit to five points on a couple of occasions down the stretch, but couldn't get over the hump in a 17-25 loss.
Set Three
A kill from Milosavljevic along with a pair of kills for
Ljubisa Novakovic and Ramblers errors fueled a 5-2 start to the third set. Shorty after, a
Tomas Badan block along with LUC errors and a pair of Sosa kills pressed the lead to 9-5.
Five of the next seven went in favor of the home team to knot the tally at 10-10, commencing an even trade of the next 16 points to an 18-18 score, where QU got help from Loyola errors along with a kill and two aces from Fenyvesi to build a crucial 23-19 lead late before going on to claim the set 25-21 shortly after.
Set Four
After falling behind 6-9 early in the frame, four of the next six points went to Quincy to narrow the margin to a single score at 10-11, prompting a six-point Ramblers run as part of a larger 8-1 swing that saw LUC take control of the set with a 19-11 edge.
The Hawks showed resilience late, outscoring Loyola by three from the 19-11 point on, but time ran too short as the Ramblers were able to secure the set 25-19.
