Quincy Pushes Streak to 10 with Win over Rockhurst

Kansas City, Mo. - The Quincy University women's basketball team secured their tenth straight win on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 1) after a second half surge in scoring put Quincy up 77-62 over Rockhurst University. This is QU's 13th win of the season with over a 10-point difference.

The teams jousted with the score throughout the first half, Rockhurst coming out of the first ten minutes with the highest lead--four points. The Rockhurst Hawks' defended well against Quincy's offense and forced the Quincy Hawks into tough shooting spots on the left wing. The Rockhurst Hawks, on the other hand, went five for nine from outside the arc, aiding in their 17-13 lead after the first quarter.

Quincy opened the second quarter with a three pointer from Janiece Dawson and regained the lead with points from graduate transfers Nicole McDermott and Taylor Haase. Quincy took away the long shot from Rockhurst, and as a result, kept ahead of the Rockhurst Hawks through the next seven minutes. Acheampomaa Danso led the Hawks with eight points in the first half.

Quincy came out of the locker room with a .615 shooting percentage and built up to a 12-point lead in the third quarter. The Quincy Hawks took away eight rebounds from the Rockhurst Hawks, the final rebound resulting in a Mariann pull up jumper to finalize the quarter.

A ten-rebound difference and a quick trip to the double bonus gave the Quincy Hawks their edge in the last quarter. Danso put up another six points in the final ten minutes, giving her a season-high 20 points on the day and surpassing 200 field goals made at QU.

After Danso, McDermott was the next highest Hawk in points with 18 and tied with Cymirah Williams in most rebounds with eight. Taya Stevenson picked up seven rebounds and her 400th career point on Saturday afternoon.

Quincy still sits third in the conference with a 10-2 conference record and a 4.08 rating on the GLVC's Point Rating System, a system used to determine the eight-team field for the 2025 GLVC Conference Tournament. At the top of the list is Lewis University with a 4.68 rating.

The Hawks will return to Pepsi Arena for a two-game home slate against the Miners of Missouri S&T and the Panthers of Drury University on February 6th and 8th, respectively.
