SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Quincy University men's wrestling team opened GLVC dual competition with an impressive 27–12 victory over Drury University, earning its first conference dual win of the season. The Hawks claimed victories in seven of the 10 bouts, highlighted by bonus-point wins and clutch performances throughout the lineup.
Quincy jumped out to an early lead at 125 pounds as
Brian Farley secured a major decision, winning by a 13–5 score. Momentum continued at 133 when
Te'Andre Allen delivered a fall at 2:31, putting the Hawks firmly in control early in the dual.
Drury answered at 141 with a major decision, but the Hawks responded immediately at 149 with a hard-fought 7–4 decision from
Sabian Russell. The victory marked Russell's 60th career win, a milestone moment in his career at Quincy.
Isaiah Nichols followed with another statement win at 157, earning an 11–3 major decision to extend Quincy's advantage.
Quincy continued to build its lead at 165 as
Jackson Jones secured a 4–1 decision in a tightly contested bout. Drury picked up a win at 174 in sudden victory, but the Hawks regained control at 184 behind a dominant performance from
Callan Ivy, who earned a 10–0 major decision.
Drury collected its final win at 197 via technical fall, but Quincy closed the dual in dramatic fashion at heavyweight.
Caleb Groff capped the night with a thrilling 9–8 decision, sealing the 27–12 team victory for the Hawks.
Quincy will return to action on December 13–14 when the Hawks travel to Indianapolis, Indiana, to compete in the Midwest Classic.
