Hawks Battle to 0–0 Draw, Clinch Top Four Finish and Home GLVC Quarterfinal

QUINCY, Ill. – On a chilly Senior Day at Jack Mackenzie Field, the Quincy University women's soccer team battled No. 24 McKendree to a 0–0 draw in a hard-fought defensive contest between two of the GLVC's top programs. With the result, the Hawks clinched a top-four finish in the GLVC standings and will host a GLVC Tournament match for the first time since 2018.

Before kickoff, the Hawks honored their eight seniors — Alayna Vela, Alyssa Amaral, Olivia Nelson, Reese Wingbermuehle, Reegan Hess, Ella Wolfard, Freja Hansen, and Monica Shupe — for their commitment and contributions to the program. The senior class set the tone for a gritty 90 minutes that reflected Quincy's resilience and defensive strength.

Both teams entered the match among the GLVC's elite, and it showed from start to finish. Each side generated scoring opportunities, but the defensive units proved why they rank among the best in the league. Quincy outshot McKendree 14–10, including an 8–4 advantage in the second half, but neither team could break through. It was the ninth shutout of the season for both squads — a testament to their consistency and discipline in the back line. The result marked just the third time this season that Quincy has been held scoreless and only the second time the Bearcats have been shut out.

Goalkeeper Devin Tracy was once again steady in net, recording four saves to secure the clean sheet. She was backed by a strong defensive effort led by Gracie Vierra, Reese Wingbermuehle, Jessie Newton, Alyssa Amaral, and Alayna Vela, who all played the full 90 minutes and contained McKendree's high-powered attack. Marina Oberschmid and Monica Shupe also provided valuable minutes along the back line, helping preserve the shutout.

Offensively, Ella Wolfard led the charge with six shots (two on goal), while Rebecca Rheinheimer added two shots on target. Quincy earned seven corner kicks and kept sustained pressure throughout much of the second half, but McKendree's goalkeeper stood tall to keep the game level.

With the draw, Quincy closes the regular season with an impressive 10–3–4 overall record and a 9–2–3 mark in GLVC play, finishing with 30 points to secure the fourth seed in the GLVC Tournament. The Hawks will now prepare for a quarterfinal rematch against fifth-seeded Drury at Legends Stadium on Sunday, November 9th (time TBD). The two teams last met on October 17th, when Drury edged Quincy 1–0. The last postseason meeting between the programs came in 2012, when the Hawks advanced on penalty kicks.
