ROCKFORD, Ill. — The Quincy University women's bowling team opened its 2025–26 campaign with an impressive showing at the UWW Warhawk Classic hosted by the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater. The Hawks finished ninth overall in the 10-team field, recording a 5–5 record and placing ninth in average per game with a mark of 168.6.
The Hawks came out hot on Friday, earning a 2–2 record with victories over seventh-ranked Newman University in the Division II preseason poll and 10th-ranked Marian (WI), while also falling in a narrow 10-pin battle against nationally ranked Wright State. Saturday brought more success, as QU went 3–2 on the day with wins over Western Illinois, Belmont Abbey, and, most notably, a victory against 13th-ranked Wisconsin–Whitewater, the program's highest-ranked win to date. The strong showing across the first two days set the tone for a promising start to the season.
In Sunday's championship bracket play, Quincy battled but ultimately fell to Marian in six games, closing the weekend in ninth place. Despite the setback, the Hawks left Rockford with confidence and momentum thanks to their strong performance against several ranked programs. Head coach
Kyle Egan praised the group's effort, saying, "Overall, a really great start to the season with a ton of great wins over great teams!"
On the individual side,
Fernanda Garcia led the way for Quincy with a 13th-place finish, rolling 891 pins over five games for an average of 178.2.
Hayden Bennett followed closely behind in 17th place with 854 pins and a 170.8 average, while
Hannah Herdklotz also landed in the top 40 with 639 pins in four games for a 159.75 average. Additional contributions came from
Lillian Fields,
Mackinzie McPeak,
Chloe Broughton, and
Macie Johnson, each of whom posted steady scores to bolster the Hawks' overall results.
With their first tournament behind them, the Hawks will look to build on a promising start that already includes milestone wins over ranked opponents and the highest-ranked win in program history. The Hawks will be back in action on October 18th and 19th as they travel to Wichita, Kansas, to compete in the Mid-States Championship.
