SMYRNA, Tenn. – The Quincy University women's bowling team faced one of the toughest fields of the season over the weekend, competing at the Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University. The Hawks finished 30th overall out of 34 teams after qualifying play and Sunday's championship bracket rounds.
Quincy opened the tournament with Baker play on Friday, splitting the opening matches with a strong start. The Hawks rolled to an 857-763 victory over Aurora to begin the event before facing several nationally ranked programs. Quincy fell to Louisiana Tech (1053-818), Marian (WI) (890-854), Vanderbilt (1138-863), and Oklahoma Christian (1035-811) to close Baker competition.
Traditional play followed, where the Hawks picked up another pair of wins. Quincy defeated Long Island 802-684 and later edged Alabama State 885-867 in a tightly contested match. The Hawks also battled Arkansas State (1046-926), Lewis (966-857), and Jackson State (910-858) in competitive matchups to finish qualifying play with a 3-7 record.
Quincy advanced to Sunday's championship bracket, where the Hawks opened with an impressive 4-1 victory over Indianapolis. Lewis ended Quincy's run in the second round with a 4-2 win, and the Hawks concluded the event with a 4-2 loss to Carthage in the position round.
Hayden Bennett led the Hawks individually, finishing 62nd overall with 948 total pins across five games for a 189.60 average.
Fernanda Garcia also placed inside the top 75, finishing 71st with 938 pins and a 187.60 average over five games.
Hannah Herdklotz totaled 815 pins across five games to finish 113th with a 163.00 average.
Macie Johnson averaged 170.00 over four games (680 pins) to place 142nd.
Mackinzie McPeak recorded 486 pins over three games for a 162.00 average, while
Lillian Fields finished with 461 pins across three games for a 153.67 average.
The Hawks will return to action at the GLVC Championship in Belleville, Illinois, scheduled for March 20–22.
