LOCKPORT, Ill. - The Quincy University women's bowling team competed at the Flyer Classic, hosted by Lewis University in Lockport, Illinois. The Hawks finished qualifying play in 21st place with a 3–7 record heading into Sunday's championship bracket.
Quincy opened Sunday with a 4–3 victory over Marian (Wis.) in the opening round before falling to Carroll University by the same 4–3 margin in the second round. The Hawks then closed the event with a loss to Marian in the position round, finishing the tournament in 22nd place with a 4–9 overall record.
The Hawks picked up a key highlight on Saturday with a ranked win in traditional play, defeating No. 17 Tulane 1002–978.
In individual match play, Quincy recorded wins over Aurora in baker play (889–784), Emmanuel in baker play (933–923), and Tulane in traditional play. Other matches included baker losses to Carroll (876–849), Sam Houston State (1007–890), and Wright State (933–845), along with traditional losses to Lewis (881–847), Maryville (1016–915), Jacksonville State (1065–867), and North Carolina A&T (911–841).
Individually,
Hayden Bennett led the Hawks with a 32nd-place finish out of 171 bowlers, totaling 1,000 pins over five games for a 200.0 average. Hannah Herdflotz finished 71st with 891 total pins and a 178.2 average, while
Fernanda Garcia and
Lillian Fields each totaled 877 pins across five games to finish 77th and 78th, respectively, both averaging 175.4.
Mackinzie McPeak added 519 pins over three games for a 173.0 average, and
Macie Johnson totaled 308 pins over two games with a 154.0 average.
The Hawks will be back in action on February 14–15 at the Viking Classic in Bettendorf, Iowa.
