LINCOLN, Neb. – The Quincy University women's bowling team faced one of the most challenging fields of the season at the Big Red Invite, competing against a 12-team field that featured 10 programs ranked inside the national top 15, including the top eight teams in the country. The Hawks placed 12th overall, gaining valuable experience against some of the nation's elite competition.
Quincy opened the weekend with an 0-5 mark in Friday's Baker matches but remained competitive throughout the day, coming within 20 pins of upsetting both No. 3 Arkansas State and No. 2 Vanderbilt. The Hawks posted scores of 888 against Arkansas State's 907 and 976 against Vanderbilt's 998. Quincy also faced Youngstown State (1027-867), Sam Houston State (920-830), and Wichita State (1079-861).
Saturday's traditional play saw the Hawks finish 1-4, earning their lone victory over Western Illinois, 1014-929. Quincy fell to Maryville (1030-818), Nebraska (1130-861), McKendree (946-915), and Jacksonville State (949-789).
On Sunday, Quincy dropped its final traditional match to Louisiana Tech, 1078-829, before entering bracket play. The Hawks were defeated by Western Illinois (4-1) and McKendree (4-1) to conclude the tournament.
Individually,
Hayden Bennett led the Hawks with a 28th-place finish, totaling 1,150 pins across six games for a 191.67 average.
Fernanda Garcia placed 35th with 1,054 pins (175.67 average), followed by
Macie Johnson in 36th with 1,005 pins (167.50).
Hannah Herdklotz finished 42nd with an average of 173.80 over five games, while
Mackinzie McPeak averaged 178.0 in three games.
Lillian Fields rounded out the lineup with 614 pins over four games.
The Hawks return to action March 6–8 for their final regular season event, traveling to Smyrna, Tennessee, for the Music City Classic.
