Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University men's swim team concluded their home stretch on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 25) with a dual meet against the Cardinals of William Jewell College. The Hawks took the win over the Cardinals 121-84.
The Hawks won five straight events to start the meet. The 200 medley relay of
Brendan Worster,
Wyatt Walsh,
Juri Bauer, and
Jordan Settumba broke the Bank of Springfield Aquatic Center pool record at 1:32.72, the best time the Hawks have seen all season.
Wojciech Chalat continued the Hawks streak of first place finishes in the 1,000 freestyle with a 9:52.43 time.
Lucca Arantes and
Victor Abram finished one and two in the 200 freestyle shortly after with times of 1:44.48 and 1:45.48, respectively.
Denislav Koykov secured two top times in Saturday's meet, his first in the 50 freestyle with a 21.36, miliseconds before
Jackson Rerick's 21.98 time, Koykov then gained the Hawks valuable points in the 500 freestyle with a 4:40.94 time.
Walsh topped four Cardinals in the 400 IM with a 4:02.90 time for first place in the event. Walsh was a part of a three Hawk chain that gained the Hawks points in the 100 freestyle. Walsh swam a 47.82, while Rerick and Paulsen Settumba rounded it out with a 47.93 and 48.31, respectively.
Worster was the last individual Hawk to finish first in an event with a 51.75 time in the 100 backstroke. The Hawks finished with a 200 freestyle victory courtesy of Jordan Paulsen Settumba,
Ian Caballero, Koykov and Rerick.
"This was just a really fast meet, we had incredible energy and came together as a team," said head coach
Bryan Christiansen. "I am so proud of this group of athletes. The score was much closer than it looks on the women's side, we flip one more event and we're there! Outstanding job against a Conference opponent who has eluded us the past few years."
The Hawks will return to the pool in February at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships.
