Box Score GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Hawks faced off against the Pioneers of Tusculum for their second match of a four-match road trip, falling to the hosts in four sets (27-29, 25-15. 21-25, 21-25) for the first loss of the 2025 campaign.
Set One
Neither side was able to create much of an advantage as the largest lead of the first 34 points of the set was only two while the lead changed on seven occasions before QU was able to break through on kills from
Ljubisa Novakovic and
Tomas Badan to lead 19-16 heading down the stretch.
Shortly after at 20-17, a four point TU run found the Hawks trailing 21-20. Later in the set with Quincy facing set-point down 24-23, a Pioneers service error and
Aleksandar Sosa ace forced set-point for the Hawks at 25-24.
QU forced set-point twice more at 26-25 and 27-26 before surrendering a three point Tusculum run to drop the first set 29-27.
Set Two
Quincy hopped out to an lead, doubling up TU to a 6-3 score before pressing the advantage further to 10-5 on a three point run shortly after.
The Pioneers trimmed the margin to three at 12-9 before QU runs of three and two points put the Hawks in prime position ahead 17-10.
A six point run featuring kills from Sosa and
Barnabas Fenyvesi along with blocks for Novakovic,
Relja Milosavljevic and
Armaan Dosanjh vaulted QU to a 23-13 edge in the set. The Hawks went on to claim the frame in convincing fashion 25-15.
Set Three
An early three point TU run to gain a 6-4 advantage put the Pioneers ahead for good in the third set as Tusculum never surrendered the lead the rest of the way.
QU hung around during the early stages, venturing back within two points on various occasions including at the 14-12 mark, prompting a four point TU run to press the deficit to 18-12.
The Hawks showed some life late in the set, taking six of the final eight points, but it was too little too late as Tusculum road its early lead to a 25-21 victory in the third set.
Set Four
Three two point swings found the Hawks ahead 6-3 to open the set until the Pioneers claimed six of the next eight points to jump in front 9-8. Quincy regained the edge shortly, trading points to the 12-11 mark where a three point TU swing made it 14-12.
A kill from Dosanjh in the next point pulled the Hawks within one at 14-13, but Quincy would creep no closer, coming within a couple of points on numerous occasions down the stretch before ultimately dropping the set 25-21 and the match 3-1.
