QUINCY, Ill. - The Hawks changed the pace of their GLVC schedule with a single game against the No. 2 Mules of Central Missouri out of the MIAA. QU used three homers and a walk to trail by a run after seven innings before UCM scored eight runs in the final two frames to take the ballgame by a 15-6 final score.
Central Missouri opened the scoring in the third inning with a lead off home run to right field to take an early 1-0 advantage.
Quincy took just two hitters to regain the edge as
David Broughton led off the bottom of the third getting plunked to put a runner on for a mammoth round-tripper off the bat of
Austin Simpson well over the right field wall to make it 2-1 Hawks.
UCM responded with four runs of its own in the top of the fourth using a double and a walk to set up a pair of two-run big flies propelling the Mules ahead 5-2.Another two-run drive to center in the top of the fifth found QU trailing 7-2 before the Hawks responded with a pair of scores in the bottom half of the inning.
Brock Boynton led off the inning with a bomb down the right field line, tucking it inside the foul pole for the first run of the half inning. A walk and a pair of singles loaded the bases for a one-out RBI walk from
JD Ortiz to make it 7-4.
QU struck again in the seventh for another pair of runs following up a walk and fielders choice with a one-out home run to right center from Ortiz to pull Quincy within a run heading to the eighth.
The Mules tagged on five runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth to put QU away late in the game and leave the ballpark with a 15-6 victory.

The Hawks resume their GLVC schedule this weekend at home, playing host to the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist for a four-game set starting with game one on Friday (Apr. 19). First pitch for game one is scheduled for 3:00 PM from QU Stadium.
