INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Hawks concluded their series with Indianapolis on Sunday (Apr. 15) falling in a pair of seven inning contests. UIndy led from wire-to-wire in both ballgames, taking the first game by a 7-4 score and the second 16-11 to take the series.
Game One
Indianapolis scored in four of the first five innings to lead 6-0 heading into the final two innings.
The Hawks hung a three spot in the sixth inning, using a single from
David Broughton followed by a homer from
Austin Simpson to plate a pair of runs before back-to-back two-out doubles from
Joe Huffman and
JD Ortiz drove in another to halve the deficit at 6-3.
UIndy pushed across another run in the bottom half of the sixth before an RBI double from
Brock Boynton in the Hawks half of the seventh, scoring
Cole Erickson, concluded the scoring in the game to give the Greyhounds the 7-4 victory in game one.
Game Two
Three-straight free passes loaded the bases for a two-RBI single from Ortiz to put QU ahead after the top of the first until a nine-run bottom half of the inning put the Hawks behind the eight ball early as Indianapolis built an early seven-run advantage.
UIndy added on three more runs in the bottom of the second on three free passes and a pair of singles before pushing another across in the third to lead 13-2.
Quincy put up seven runs in the fourth to get back into the game. A two-run homer from
Jake Vitale along with RBI singles from Simpson and Huffman made it 13-6 followed up by a run-scoring walk for
Connor Simons and a two-RBI single for
Charlie Allison to narrow the margin to 13-9.
A one-out single from Broughton set up another scoring opportunity in the fifth as Simpson ripped a double to center, bringing around Broughton to make it 13-10.
The Greyhounds tacked on a trio of runs in the bottom half of the inning to rebuild the advantage back to six at 16-10. QU scored the final run of the contest in the sixth, using consecutive doubles from Simpson and
Dustin Dupont to bring the final score to 16-11.

The Hawks have a quick turnaround, playing host to the Mules of University of Central Missouri for a single midweek ballgame at QU Stadium on Tuesday (Apr. 16). First pitch is slated for 2:00 PM.
