QUINCY, IL---The Quincy University baseball team split a double header vs Davenport on Saturday (March 2) at QU Stadium. After dropping game one 6-3, they took game two 5-4 in walk-off fashion.
Game 1
The Hawks fell behind 3-0 after the Panthers scored three runs in the top of the first. They added one in the second and two more in the third and led 6-0. Quincy'
Joe Huffman had an RBI single in the 4th to make it 6-1, and then
Cole Erickson had a sacrifice fly in the 6th to make it 6-2. Freshman
David Broughton had a 3-4 day at the plate with 2 runs scored, including a 7th inning RBI single to make it 6-3, but it wasn't enough as QU fell short in game one. The Hawks and Panthers each had 8 hits in game one.
Game 2
QU responded with a thrilling game two, despite falling behind again. The Hawks trailed 3-0 until
JD Ortiz and
Harry Fandre launched RBI doubles to center field in the bottom of the fourth, and then a Huffman single tied the game at 3-3. The Hawks trailed 4-3 headed into the bottom of the 8th, but Ortiz had an RBI single to tie it at 4-4, and then
Jake Vitale scored the winning run on a balk to walk-it-off in extra innings. Broughton had two more hits in game 2 and is hitting .405 on the season.
