WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Hawks kicked off their midweek contests for the season with a trip down to the #3 ranked team in all the land in the Mules of Central Missouri. QU out-hit UCM in the ballgame but the Mules ended up on the right end of the scoreboard coming away with the 10-6 victory.
Central Missouri added the first two tallies in the scoring for the contest, plating a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first inning on a sac fly and a home run before the Hawks responded with a run of their own in the next half inning. A double from
Austin Simpson followed by a single from
Joe Huffman set up a sacrifice fly for
JD Ortiz to halve the deficit at 2-1.
The Hawks took the lead in the top of the fifth, using an HBP and a single from
Brock Boynton to put two men on for a two RBI double from
Dustin Dupont to put his side ahead 3-2. The Mules regained the advantage in the bottom of the fifth on four hits, three Quincy errors and a walk to enter the sixth inning with a 7-3 edge.
UCM added two more in the sixth on a homer, prompting a Quincy response in the seventh. A walk along with one-out singles from Boynton, Simpson and Dupont brought in a run before a fielders choice and RBI single from
Evan Davis pulled the Hawks within three at 9-6.
The Mules scored the final run of the contest in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 10-6 victory over the Hawks.

QU resumes its GLVC conference slate this weekend, returning home to QU Stadium for a four-game set against the Hawks of Rockhurst. First pitch of game one on Friday is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
