Hawks Fall in Final Day of The Spring Games

Winter Haven, Fla. - The Quincy University softball program finished their spring break trip to Florida on a low, dropping their final two games to the Northern State Wolves and Wayne State (Michigan) Warriors on Tuesday (March 12). The Hawks fell to the Wolves 4-1 in eight innings and to the Warriors 2-0.

Game One vs. Wolves
The Hawks had slow start to their early morning game on Tuesday, staying clean off the scoreboard until the sixth inning. The Wolves came out hot with a run in the front half of the first inning. The Hawks had an opportunity to get and equalizing run in the bottom of the inning with two walks and a sacrifice bunt from Allison Kaiser to move Shields into scoring position. The Hawks could not convert.

The next three innings were short and sweet for both sides. The Hawks kept the Wolves at bay by throwing the lead Wolves runner out on a steal to finish the inning unscathed.

The Hawks finally got their chance in the sixth inning. Mykah Hurley hit a single and stole second to get in scoring position. Ryleigh Jones singled deep into center field, sending Hurley across home plate.

KJ Weller got the start for the Hawks Tuesday morning, striking out four and only allowing one earned run.

With the equalizer, the Hawks forced an international tie breaker inning in the eighth. Eileen McGinnis retired Weller to pitch the final inning of the game. The Wolves' offense exploded, scoring three runs in the extra inning. The Hawks looked to come back in the final half inning but were unsuccessful.

Game Two vs. Warriors
The Warriors struck hard at the start, scoring their only two runs off a two-run triple in the pocket between right and center field. The Hawks tried to get on the board at the top of the second inning, but the Warriors displayed great defense with a double play taking out Mykah Hurley and Avery Funk

Greta Specht, Lindsey Fischer, and Jessie Martin each had a hit in the game, but none converted to runs. Abbey Hultz ran the circle for the Hawks, striking out three.
