Springfield, Mo. - The Hawks were on the road once again Thursday night (Dec. 5), taking on the Panthers of Drury University in a GLVC matchup.
After a back-and-forth start to the first half, the Hawks grabbed a 25-23 lead with 7:50 left in the first half and never looked back. A fifty-point outburst in the second half gave Quincy their largest win of the season and their first in GLVC play.Â
The two teams traded baskets for the first twelve minutes of the game, with the largest lead for either side only being four points. A baby hook from freshman
Tiernan Stynes before the under-eight media timeout gave the Hawks a 25-23 lead, and they would never trail again. Quincy would end the first half on a buzzer-beating three from
Max Booher to give the Hawks a commanding 42-29 lead headed into halftime.
Booher would start the second half the same way he ended it, with a three-pointer on the first possession for the Hawks. It would then turn into the
Jake Hamilton show as he went on to score the next ten points for Quincy, which included two three-pointers, extending the lead to eighteen.Â
The offense continued to roll in the backend of the second half for QU. A 10-0 run that spanned just under three minutes continued to grow the lead. A pair of free throws from
El Sieger would give the Hawks their largest lead of the game at 88-55. As time was winding down, a steal from Sieger on the defensive end led to a one-handed slam from
John Kelly III to cap off a GLVC road win over the Panthers with a final score of 92-59.
The offense of the Hawks put up a season-high in points, led by Hamilton, who set a new career-high with a team-leading 20 points. As a team, the Hawks shot a red-hot 56.9% from the field and 40% from deep. Ten triples from Quincy set a new season-high after four players found their stroke from long range. QU was also able to dominate the rebounding department, outrebounding it's opponent once again, which has happened in six of the first eight games.Â
Besides the 20 points from Hamilton, the Hawks were able to get it done by committee, with eleven total players finding the scorers column and four of those being in double-figures. Booher continued his hot start to the season with 19 points, including going 5-6 from behind the arc.
Ethyn Brown was also in double-figures for the sixth time this season with 13 points, and despite an off-shooting night, Sieger still managed to score 12 in just 14 minutes of action. Quincy was led in the rebound department by a couple of guys off the bench.Â
Logan Robbins with 8, and
Todd Bieg with 7.Â
