Hawks Pick Up Eighth GLVC Win in Sweep of WJC

Liberty, Mo. - The #18 Hawks kept their conference unbeaten streak going on Friday (Nov. 1) against William Jewell, picking up the sweep of the Cardinals on the road (25-23, 25-18, 25-16) to move to 8-0 in league play.

Set One

WJC opened the match on a 5-2 run before back-to-back kills from Emma Wijnbergen along with one from Selin Turgut even the score at 5-5. Two points later at 6-6, Cardinals runs of three and six built a 15-7 advantage for William Jewell.

Following a QU sub, the Hawks erupted for a nine-point run, getting contributions from nearly every player on the floor in one way or another to vault ahead 16-15.

Neither side was able to create much of an advantage until a four-point Quincy run at 20-19 put the Hawks in front 23-20 heading down the stretch. QU held off a late WJC run with clutch kills from Wijnbergen and Luna Van Baars to close out a 25-23 win in the first set.

Set Two

After taking the first two points of a the set, a five point Hawks run made it 7-1 to open the second frame.

Later in the set, a three-point Quincy run pressed the edge to 13-4 and it was easy sailing from there as the Cardinals never drew closer than six points for the remainder of the set while the QU advantage stretched to as many as 10 before reaching a conclusion at 25-18 on a block from Erin Matzke

Once again, early in the set the Hawks got things going, this time putting up five-straight at the 7-6 mark to open up an 11-5 advantage on a trifecta of Van Baars kills along with a pair from Samantha Hansen
