Quincy, Ill. - The Hawks got back on track at home on Friday (Oct. 25) picking up another GLVC win in three sets over Southwest Baptist (25-19, 25-22, 25-18) to remain unbeaten in conference play.
Set One
After an evenly matched opening to the set, SBU built up the first significant advantage of the match at 16-11. The Hawks responded with an eight-point run to burst ahead 19-16. Kills from
Emma Wijnbergen and
Zeynep Cetin paired with two aces from
Janelle Pye-Blacknard and Bearcats errors fueled the big QU run.
Quincy took care of business from that point on, using a four-point run moments later to close out a 25-19 winner in the first set capped off by an ace from
Makayla Eckel.
Set Two
Southwest Baptist took four of the first six points of the set, prompting a six-point QU run to build an 8-4 edge.
The Hawks never surrendered the lead for the remainder of the set as Quincy went on to lead by as many as six points while SBU drew as close as a single point on three occasions down the stretch at 18-17, 20-19 and 23-22.
In need of just two points to close out the set, QU found them in a Bearcat service error and a Wijnbergen kill to seal a 25-22 victory in set two.
Set Three
Quincy built the first substantial lead of the set with a pair of three-point runs at the 10-10 mark to lead it 16-11. A pair of Wijnbergen kills and SBU errors along with blocks from
Luna Van Baars, Cetin and
Erin Matzke gave the Hawks a lead they'd never give back.
QU began to pull away late in the set, stretching the lead to it's largest on the final point of the match as a Southwest Baptist error concluded a 25-18 set win and 3-0 sweep of the match.
