Women's Volleyball Down Drury in Four Sets

Quincy, Ill. - The Hawks eclipsed the 20-win mark for a third-straight season in a Saturday (Oct. 26) victory over the Panthers of Drury in four sets (16-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-18) to move to 7-0 in the league standings. 

Set One 

The Hawks couldn't get anything going to open the match as Drury out-hit QU by nearly .250, committing just two hitting errors in the set and taking an early advantage all the way to the finish line in a 25-16 win for the Panthers.

Set Two 

Quincy got things rolling in the second set, using an early four-point run to to lead it 5-2. DU drew back within a point later in the set at 9-8, prompting Hawks runs of three and four points to press ahead 16-9. A Drury error, kills from Erin Matzke, Susanna Beretti and Emma Wijnbergen along with back-to-back aces from Elena Kasavica supplied the firepower for the run. 

QU used a five-point run just a point later to press the edge to 21-10 before going on to take the set 25-13 on a Zeynep Cetin kill. 

Set Three

After falling behind 4-1 to open the set, a pair of three-point Quincy runs propelled the Hawks ahead 7-5. Shortly after at 10-10, QU took seven of the next nine points, building a 17-12 lead heading down the stretch. 

Quincy stretched the lead to as many as six points at 21-15, never allowing the Panthers any closer than three points for the remainder of the set as the Hawks took the 25-20 victory to lead the match two sets to one. 

Set Four

Drury took eight of the first 15 points to lead by just a point at 8-7 before a three-point QU run put the Hawks ahead 10-8. Shortly after at 12-10, a five-point Quincy run extended the advantage to 17-10. 

DU took three of the next four to narrow the deficit to five points, prompting the Hawks to take five of the next six points and a 23-14 lead on three kills and an ace from Selin Turgut and a Beretti kill. Shortly after, two more Beretti kills closed the book on a 25-18 set and 3-1 match winner.
