Hawks Downed by #21 Greyhounds

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Quincy University football team faced #21 University of Indianapolis on Saturday evening (Oct. 12) in the Circle City. The Hawks were overwhelmed by a top-ranked offense and fell to the Greyhounds 47-10. 

The Hawks started off strong in the first quarter, stunning the Greyhounds with a touchdown on the first drive. Drake Davis was successful in the air, going five for five in completed passes. Anthony Gilpin Jr., caught the final two passes of the drive, making a third-down conversion and securing the Hawks first score of the game. Michael Owens completed the conversion kick, giving the Hawks a 7-0 lead only four minutes into the game. 

The Greyhounds responded quickly with back-to-back touchdowns, the latter on a 30-yard interception run. 

The Hawks got within the red zone on the next drive, courtesy of a Davis 42-yard launch to Gilpin Jr. Owens attempted a field goal thirty yards out to cut the Greyhound lead. 

The Hawks stopped the Greyhounds in their tracks on the next drive beginning with a tackle for one yard of loss from senior Trajen Thornton. Both teams stayed within the middle of the field for the remainder of the quarter. 

The final 45 minutes of play was all Greyhounds, scoring 33 points on four touchdowns and two field goals. 

Davis went 189 yards on 29 attempts with a 72 percent completion rate. Teon Dollard led the Hawks with 48 net rushing yards on a down night for the Hawks offense on the ground. 

Gilpin Jr., had a part in both touchdowns in the evening and led Quincy in reception yards with 102 yards on six catches. 

On defense, Shaun'dell Hawkins led the pack with six solo tackles and one assist tackle. Four Hawks had five total tackles--Trajen Thornton, Brock Wiley, Tim Gomez, and Matt Austin

Alex Schattin averaged 37.8 yards on six punts for the Hawks, going 227 yards total.
