ST. CHARLES, MO. – The Quincy University women's basketball team played on the road for the final time this season against the Lindenwood Lions on Tuesday night (Feb. 23). QU was paced by
Sarah Nelson who had 18 points in a 67-58 loss.
Quincy gained the early lead, 5-4, following two layups by
Sarah Nelson and a free throw by
Dami Adeyinka with 5:23 to go. The Lions kicked it into gear and outscored the Hawks 12-4 over the remaining five minutes in the quarter and took a 16-9 lead into the second quarter.
The Hawk offense burst to life in the second quarter with 24 points on just under 58% shooting from the field. Six different Hawks got buckets in the second frame including six from
Sarah Nelson, six from
Gabrielle Burns, five from
Aleksandra Petrovic, a three from
Jazzpher Evans, and a lay up by
Amanda Porth.
QU hung tough with the Lions in the first half and only trailed by two at halftime, 35-33.
The ebbs and flows on offense returned for the Hawks after the halftime break. Quincy made just five field goals on 23 attempts in the third quarter and were outscored 18-10 in the frame. Heading to the fourth, QU trailed 53-43.
Lindenwood opened up the final period with a 7-2 run which was enough to hold off the Hawks the rest of the way. With 1:19 to go, QU did cut it to just a six point game, but the spark was too late. Lindenwood took the road contest by a final of 67-58.
In the loss, Quincy forced 18 LU turnovers and committed just eleven. QU's bench outscored Lindenwood's bench, 22-7, but the Hawks attempted only four free throws in the contest.
