QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team faced off with Southwest Baptist University on Thursday evening (Feb. 25). The Hawks hung tough for three quarters but fell behind in the fourth in a 69-50 loss.

Quincy started the game off a bit slow as SBU scored the first 12 points of the game. The Hawks did not let the sluggish start affect them and responded with a 12-4 run to close the opening quarter and trailed 16-12 after one.

Jazzpher Evans began the second quarter with back-to-back layups to tie the game, 16-16. Emma Knipe followed that up with a made a shot from downtown to give QU their first lead of the game with eight minutes to go, 19-18.

The Bearcats did not waver and went on a 5-0 run to take back control and headed to half with a 30-23 advantage.

To start the third quarter, the Hawks pushed their way back in the game behind a 12-6 scamper to bring the score to 36-35. Senior Aleksandra Petrovic put up eight of the 12 points with two shots from beyond the arc and a layup to get the Hawks back in it.

Quincy regained the lead shortly after as they went on a four-point stroll and made the score 45-44 with only 46 seconds left in the third.

SBU made the next shot before the fourth and final period to take back the lead and the momentum heading into the final ten minutes.

Southwest put things to rest in the fourth quarter by exploding with 19 of the first 21 points. This gave SBU the largest lead of the game, 65-47.

Quincy was held without a field goal in the final period and dropped the contest, 69-50.
