Hawks Battle #3 Drury on Senior Day

QUINCY, Ill - The Quincy women's basketball celebrated their two seniors Grace Schraufnagel and Aleksandra Petrovic on Sunday before facing off with the third-ranked team in the country on Saturday afternoon (Feb.27). The Hawks hung tough for three quarters before falling by a final score of 93-74. 

Riding the Senior day emotions, Quincy jumped out to a 4-2 advantage behind jumpers from Emma Knipe and Aleksandra Petrovic. A few possessions later, Dami Adeyinka broke through the Panthers passing lane with a steal and a lay up to lead into the first media timeout as Quincy led 8-7.

As time winded down in the first quarter, Marta Rivera connected with Sarah Nelson on a high-low attack to end the quarter at 20-16 with Drury leading. Quincy shot 66.7 percent on 8-12 attempts in the opening ten minutes.

The second quarter had a similar offensive flow, as the two teams scored 42 points combined and both teams shot close to 60 percent from the field.

Before the end of the half, Paige Robinson of Drury knocked in a buzzer beating three after a no-call when Dami Adeyinka got a steal and was pushed. This gave the Panthers a 43-35 halftime advantage. 

The Hawks set a season first half high with 19 bench points. Seven different Hawks got in the scoring column as Jazzpher Evans led with eight. Quincy also shot 62.2 percent from the field through the first two quarters. 

Drury opened the second half on a 16-6 run to give the Panthers a 59-43 lead.

Over the final six minutes of the period Quincy would return the favor going on a 24 to 12 run cutting the Drury deficit to just five 72-67.

In the final period, the defensive intensity for the Panthers set in. Drury held the Hawks to only seven points on 2-7 shooting, while the Panthers made nine field goals and notched 21 fourth quarter points. 

Quincy fell at home in their final contest of the season to No. 3 ranked Drury by a final, 93-74.
