JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Quincy University men's and women's track & field teams were in action at the True Blue Open on Saturday (April 27) in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Kolton Grawe led the men's side to a 7
th place finish and the women's side finished in 11
th.
Kolton Grawe won the 400-meter dash on the men's side with a personal best time of 50.01 seconds, recording ten points for the Hawks. The freshman brought in five more points by finishing fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.85 seconds.
Kevin Saunders and
Josh White rounded out the sprinting events for QU. Saunders finished the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.22 seconds and White completed the 400-meter dash in 51.63 seconds, good enough for 10
th. Saunders (5.28 meters) also competed in the long jump competition.
Sophomore Zach Reider pulled in five points for the Hawks with a 38.88 meter toss in the javelin competition, good enough for fourth place.
Tyrone Hicks recorded three more points, finishing in sixth with a throw of 38.37 meters.
Wendell Bias (35.31 meters) also competed in the event, finishing in ninth.
Hicks and
Eric Venvertloh competed in the other two throwing competitions. In the shot put, Hicks finished with a throw of 11.52 meters and Venvertloh recorded a toss of 8.27 meters. Hicks (35.71 meters) and Venvertloh (23.69 meters) also took part in the discus.
Josh White finished in fourth place in the high jump competition, leaping 1.82 meters.
Will Kipping competed in the 800-meter run, finishing with a time of 2:03.77.
Josiah Prenger improved his time in the 5000-meter run, finishing with a time of 18:29.41.
Logan Waid brought in another top-10 finish for the Hawks, taking sixth place in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:11.53.
The men's team finished the day with a fifth place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of White, Kipping, Saunders, and Grawe finished with a combined time of 3:35.88.
On the women's side,
Maggie Porterfield led the way with six points for the Hawks. The sophomore saw a third place finish in the pole vault competition, clearing a height of 2.67 meters.
Hannah Horman recorded three points with her fifth top-10 finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Horman took fifth place with a time of 13:33.11. The sophomore also competed in the discus, coming in with a throw of 20.98 meters.
Athena Lesiotis finished in seventh place in the 1500-meter run with a time 5:24.31 while
Ashton Leslie finished with a time of 6:07.92. Lesiotis (2:33.74) also competed in the 800-meter run.
Dami Adeyinka crossed the finish line in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.21 seconds. The freshman also ran in the 200-meter dash, recording a time of 27.75 seconds.
Aleksandra Petrovic rounded out the competition for QU with a third place finish in the javelin, finishing with a throw of 32.18 meters.
Next up for the Hawks
The Hawks travel to Kirksville, Missouri Thursday to compete in the GLVC Championships (May 2-4).
