Track and Field Competes At Viking Olympics

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Quincy University men's and women's track and field teams were in action on Saturday (Mar. 30) at the Viking Olympics, hosted by Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill.

The Hawks had six top 15 finishes overall at the meet. 

On the women's side, Hannah Horman placed first in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:04.69. 

In the javelin throw, Aleksandra Petrovic finished in 10th place with a distance of 30.32 meters. Maggie Porterfield also competed in the event and finished in 15th with a toss of 26.52 meters.

In the high jump competition, Caitlyne McGarrity leaped to 1.4 meters, good enough for 12th place in the event. 

Athena Lesiotis completed the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:25.48. Ashton Leslie (5:56.77) also competed in that race. 

Dami Adeyinka saw a top 25 finish in her first meet with the Hawks as she completed the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.81 seconds, good enough for 21st. 

On the men's side, Josh White leaped 1.75 meters in the high jump competition, good enough for 13th in the event. White also led the Hawks in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.49 seconds. Wendell Bias also competed in the event, finishing with a time of 1:00.05. 

Kolton Grawe impressed in the 200-meter dash coming in 15th with a time of 23.00 seconds, less than a second off the winning pace. Kevin Saunders (23.57 seconds) also competed in that race. 

Grawe and Saunders also competed in the 100-meter dash, finishing with times of 11.5 seconds and 11.67 seconds, respectively. Jordan Smith (14.48 seconds) also competed in that race. 

The Hawks had three competitors in the javelin throw with Bias coming in with the top result for QU with a toss of 30.94 meters. Eric Venvertloh (26.86 meters) and Tyrone Hicks (26.20 meters) also competed in the event. Venvertloh and Hicks were also in the discus competition, finishing with throws of 22.72 meters and 34.28 meters, respectively. 

In the 800-meter race, Will Kipping finished with a time of 2:05.47. Kipping also competed in the 1500-meter run coming in at 4:20.45.

The Hawks return to the track on Saturday (Apr. 6) at the Central Methodist Invite in Fayette, Mo.
