Hawks Complete Inaugural Season at GLVC Championships

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's and men's track & field teams completed their inaugural outdoor seasons on Friday and Saturday (May 6-7) at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo.
 
While neither team was able to draw a point at their first-ever official appearance at the event, the Hawks turned in some solid performances.
 
On the men's throwing side, senior Sam Rohr led the group in the shot put with a heave of 11.65 meters and in the discus with a distance of 30.96 meters. Sophomore Jake Bass-Barber launched the javelin 37.83 meters to finish in 13th place, the highest spot for a QU athlete on the weekend. Sophomore Robbie Overstreet tossed the shot 10.06 meters, finishing two spots behind Rohr.
 
In short distance running, senior Derek Armstrong led the Hawks with a 28th place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.58 seconds. He was 20th in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 55.06 seconds. Sophomore Conner Gibbons was just a tick behind at 56.73 seconds. Gibbons also ran the 800-meter in a time of 2:13.40.
 
Senior Michael Crotteau finished his collegiate career by running in both the 5K and 10K events. He was 22nd in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 17:23.27 and clocked in at 35:43.56 in the 10,000-meter race. He was 23rd in that event.
 
On the women's side, sophomore Marie Rush led the Lady Hawks in the shot put with a throw of 7.78 meters. Freshman Mattie Hoiness led in the javelin, throwing it 19.85 meters. In the discus, freshman Kellyn Lamore finished with a throw of 24.64 meters.
 
Lamore also led two running events for QU, finishing the 200-meter dash in 28.66 seconds and running the 800-meter race in 2:33.78. Sophomore Dede Barrigah ran the 400-meter dash in 1:15.86.
 
Senior Elizabeth Leden led the QU field in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:13.27. Senior Brittany Klosak ran the event in 5:51.46 and freshman Ashley Doellman clocked in at 6:23.58.
 
Leden finished the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:12.26 and also ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:25.98.
 
Sophomore Megan McClure finished the 5K with a sub 20-minute time of 19:57.61.
 
Lewis won the GLVC Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship, more than doubling the nearest competitor's point total on the women's side. Bellarmine was second and Indianapolis was third for the women. Indianapolis was second and McKendree was third on the men's side.
