INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team dropped its second straight GLVC road match on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 24 University of Indianapolis in straight sets, 25-19, 25-19, 25-20, inside the Ruth Lilly Center. The loss moves the Hawks to 9-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The opening set was tightly contested through the majority of the frame. Quincy remained within striking distance throughout and eventually evened the score at 17-17, but Indianapolis took control from there. The Greyhounds scored eight of the final 10 points to pull away for a 25-19 victory. The Hawks struggled to generate consistent offense, hitting just .020 with nine kills and eight errors, while Indianapolis hit .178 with 15 kills and seven errors.
Indianapolis created separation earlier in the second set, turning a tight start into a 20-13 advantage. Quincy refused to go away, answering with a 5-0 run to pull within two at 20-18 behind kills from
Erin Matzke,
Aysem Kocaalp and
Macey Rocco, along with a big block. The Greyhounds halted the comeback there, scoring five of the final six points to take another 25-19 win and a 2-0 match lead. Quincy improved offensively in the frame, hitting .150 with 11 kills and five errors, but Indianapolis answered with 17 kills on a .310 hitting percentage.
The Greyhounds came out firing in the third set, quickly building a 7-1 advantage before stretching the margin to 12-3. Quincy continued to battle despite the early deficit and found some success from the service line late, recording all three of its aces in the final frame. The Hawks chipped away at the margin and eventually got back within four at 24-20, but Indianapolis put down the final kill to complete the sweep, 25-20. Quincy finished the set with 12 kills and hit .105, while the Greyhounds posted 15 kills at a .303 clip.
Indianapolis controlled the match offensively, finishing with 47 kills and a .258 hitting percentage compared to 32 kills and a .085 mark for Quincy. The Greyhounds also held advantages in digs, 63-52, and total blocks, 11-7. Both teams finished with three service aces.
Kocaalp led the Hawks with 10 kills and added 14 digs for her third double-double of the season. Rocco recorded 27 assists and 11 digs for her eighth double-double of the year, while
Amber Glen matched Kocaalp with a team-high 14 digs. Monika Bíliková added six kills and four block assists, while
Olivia Curry finished with seven kills and a solo block.
Quincy will now return to Pepsi Arena for its first home match of the season on Friday, September 25th. The Hawks welcome Missouri-St. Louis for a 6:00 PM first serve as they look for their first GLVC victory of the year.
