QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team travels to Kansas City, Missouri, on Saturday for a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup against Rockhurst University at Bourke Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 AM.

The Hawks enter the contest with a 2-1-4 overall record and a 2-0-2 mark in GLVC play after earning a scoreless draw against Lewis on Wednesday.

Rockhurst enters the match unbeaten at 6-0-1 overall and 4-0 in conference action following a 2-1 road victory over Missouri S&T.

Saturday's matchup features two teams built around strong defensive play, but the biggest storyline may be whether Quincy can slow one of the conference's most productive offenses.

Last Time Out

Quincy battled Lewis to a 0-0 draw Wednesday in Romeoville.

The Hawks generated several quality scoring opportunities throughout the match, finishing with 11 shots and seven corner kicks.

Jessie Newton led the attack with five shots, including three on goal, while Rebecca Rheinheimer added four shots and one attempt on target.

Quincy recorded four shots in the first half before increasing the pressure after halftime with seven more attempts.

Dache Johnson forced a save early in the second half, while Newton continued to challenge the Lewis defense throughout the match.

Defensively, goalkeeper Devin Tracy delivered another strong performance, making two saves while recording her second shutout of the season.

Defense Has Fueled Quincy's Success

One of the biggest reasons Quincy remains unbeaten in conference play has been its defensive consistency. The Hawks have allowed only six goals through seven matches and have not surrendered more than two goals in a game all season.

Quincy has recorded two shutouts and has limited opponents to just 62 total shots while generating 94 of its own. Tracy has been a key part of that success, recording 26 saves while helping the Hawks maintain one of the better defensive records in the conference.

The defensive effort has allowed Quincy to stay competitive in every match, with four draws and only one loss on the season. That balance between offense and defense has helped Quincy become one of the conference's more difficult teams to beat.

Quincy Attack Faces Tough Test

While the defense has been reliable, Quincy will need its offense to create opportunities against one of the conference's top goalkeepers.

Rheinheimer leads the Hawks with four goals and continues to be one of the team's most dangerous attacking threats. Newton remains one of the top playmakers in the country and near the top of NCAA Division II in assists.

The Hawks have scored 11 goals this season and average 1.57 goals per match. That attack will face one of its biggest challenges of the season against a Rockhurst defense anchored by goalkeeper Sydney Schnarr, who enters the weekend with an .875 save percentage and 42 saves.

Opponent History

Saturday's match will mark the 36th meeting between the two programs. Quincy holds a 17-13-5 advantage in the all-time series and earned a 2-1 victory in last season's meeting at Bourke Field.

Rheinheimer scored both goals in that contest, including the game-winner in the 83rd minute. The Hawks controlled much of the match, outshooting Rockhurst 18-12 and holding an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. Tracy made two saves to secure the victory.

Recent meetings between the teams have been competitive, with both programs trading wins in recent seasons.

Scouting Rockhurst

Rockhurst enters Saturday as one of the hottest teams in the country. The Hawks are unbeaten through seven matches and have won six straight after opening the season with a draw.

Rockhurst has scored 17 goals while allowing only six.

The attack is led by Caitlyn Smith and Jenna Roark, who each have four goals this season. Julia Witt and Jazmin Martinez Rangel have added two goals apiece.

Rockhurst averages more than two goals per game and enters the weekend with one of the highest-scoring attacks in the GLVC.

The defense has been equally impressive.

Schnarr has recorded 42 saves while posting a .875 save percentage and helping Rockhurst record two shutouts.

Roark and Schnarr were both recognized as GLVC Players of the Week earlier this season after helping lead the Hawks through a strong stretch of nonconference play.

Rockhurst most recently defeated Missouri S&T 2-1 on Wednesday, with Martinez Rangel scoring the game-winner in the 74th minute.

The Hawks were selected sixth in the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll after finishing 8-6-4 overall and 7-4-3 in conference play last season.

Head coach Greg Herdlick is in his 28th season leading the program.

Matchup Outlook

Saturday's matchup features two teams that have built their success around strong defensive play, but the game may ultimately be decided by which offense can create the most quality opportunities.

Quincy's defense has allowed only six goals all season, but it will face one of its toughest challenges yet against a Rockhurst attack averaging more than two goals per game.

On the other side, Rheinheimer and Newton will look to break through against Schnarr and a Rockhurst defense that has been among the GLVC's best.

Rockhurst enters on a six-match winning streak, while Quincy remains unbeaten through its first four conference matches.

With both teams allowing fewer than one goal per match on average and sitting near the top of the GLVC standings, Saturday's contest could provide an early test for two teams with postseason aspirations.
