Hawks Host Maryville in GLVC Tournament Quarterfinals

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team opens postseason play Sunday, November 1, welcoming Maryville University to Legends Stadium for a Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament quarterfinal. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 PM.

Quincy earned the No. 4 seed after finishing the regular season at 8-3-6 overall and 8-2-4 in GLVC play, totaling 28 conference points.

Maryville enters as the No. 5 seed at 8-6-4 overall and 8-3-3 in the GLVC, finishing just one point behind the Hawks with 27.

Sunday marks Quincy's 23rd GLVC Tournament appearance and the second consecutive season the Hawks have earned a top-four seed and the right to host a quarterfinal at Legends Stadium.

The matchup also brings together two teams separated by little throughout the regular season. Quincy and Maryville played to a scoreless draw on October 7 and enter the postseason with their overall series tied.

Hawks Enter Postseason on Four-Match Winning Streak

Quincy enters the GLVC Tournament playing some of its best soccer of the season.

The Hawks have won four consecutive matches, defeating Southwest Baptist, Upper Iowa, Lincoln and Truman State while outscoring those opponents 17-1.

Quincy has been particularly dominant defensively over its last three matches, posting consecutive shutouts against Upper Iowa, Lincoln and Truman while holding a 14-0 scoring advantage during that stretch.

The late-season surge pushed Quincy into the top four of the conference standings and secured postseason soccer at Legends Stadium for the second straight season.

Last Time Out

Quincy closed the regular season with a 1-0 road victory over Truman State in Kirksville.

The Hawks found the breakthrough early.

Tori Nelson scored at 16:17 off an assist from Emily Richardson, giving Quincy the advantage less than 17 minutes into the match. The goal was Nelson's third of the season and first game-winner.

Quincy continued creating opportunities throughout the match while keeping Truman from finding an equalizer.

The Hawks finished with an 18-10 advantage in shots and a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. Quincy also held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Libby Kamp made three saves across 90 minutes to secure her fourth shutout of the season.

The victory moved Quincy to 28 conference points and locked up the No. 4 seed in the GLVC Tournament.

Defense Continues to Set the Tone

Quincy enters postseason play with one of the strongest defensive records in the conference.

The Hawks have allowed just 12 goals through 17 matches, an average of 0.71 per contest, while recording eight shutouts. Quincy has not allowed a goal in its last three matches.

Goalkeeping duties have been split between Devin Tracy and Kamp, with Tracy missing the end of the season due to injury.

Tracy has appeared in 11 matches, recording 40 saves and four shutouts.

Kamp has taken over down the stretch and enters the tournament with 17 saves, four shutouts and only two goals allowed. She carries a 0.33 goals-against average and an .895 save percentage.

That defensive consistency will be tested by a Maryville team that has scored 35 goals this season.

Rheinheimer, Newton Lead Quincy Attack

While Quincy's defense has remained consistent, the Hawks' attack found another level during the final weeks of the regular season.

Rebecca Rheinheimer leads Quincy with 15 goals and 32 points.

The senior produced eight goals over a three-match stretch late in the season, including hat tricks against Southwest Baptist and Lincoln and two more goals against Upper Iowa.

Her performances earned both GLVC Offensive Player of the Week and D2CIDA Women's Soccer National Player of the Week honors.

Jessie Newton has served as Quincy's primary creator.

Newton enters the postseason with 17 assists and four goals, giving her 25 points. Her 17 assists established a new Quincy single-season record and have helped make her one of the most productive playmakers in Division II.

Together, Rheinheimer and Newton give Quincy two proven attacking threats entering the postseason.

Familiar Opponents Meet Again

Quincy and Maryville last met October 7 at Legends Stadium, playing to a 0-0 draw.

The Hawks finished with an 8-6 advantage in shots, while each team placed two attempts on goal. Rheinheimer led Quincy with three shots, including one on goal.

Claudia Andreu added two shots with one on target, while Newton and Richardson also generated attempts.

Quincy held a 4-2 shot advantage during the opening half before the teams each recorded four attempts after halftime. Maryville finished with a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

The physical matchup featured 30 combined fouls and three yellow cards, with Quincy committing 17 fouls and Maryville 13.

Neither side was able to find the breakthrough, setting up another tightly matched meeting with significantly higher stakes Sunday.

Scouting Maryville

Maryville enters the postseason following a 4-0 victory over William Jewell in its regular-season finale.

Emily Doane scored twice in the win, while Sophia Carter opened the scoring and assisted on Anne van Son's first goal of the season. The Saints finished with a 23-6 advantage in shots.

Maryville has scored 35 goals while allowing 22 this season, giving the Saints several different attacking options.

Helene Braren leads the Saints with five goals and four assists.

Doane has also scored five times while adding one assist, while Carter has recorded three goals and four assists.

Goalkeeper Agnes Vilen has started all 18 matches and anchors the Maryville defense with 49 saves and five individual shutouts. Maryville has recorded eight shutouts as a team.

The Saints entered the season ranked No. 21 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll after finishing 13-3-6 last season and advancing to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Final.

Carter returned after earning GLVC Freshman of the Year and All-Region honors in 2025.

Defender Carissa Speight also returned after earning Second Team All-GLVC recognition while recording two goals and two assists last season.

Head coach Lori Lawson is in her ninth season leading the program.

Series History

The series between Quincy and Maryville is tied 7-7-5 dating back to 2009. The teams have played to draws in each of the last two meetings.

Despite their familiarity as GLVC opponents, Sunday will mark the first time the programs have faced one another in the GLVC Tournament.

That gives the postseason matchup another layer of significance as one team will take the first tournament victory in the history of the series.

GLVC Tournament History

Quincy makes its 23rd GLVC Tournament appearance and will host a quarterfinal for the second consecutive season.

The Hawks have won the conference tournament twice, capturing back-to-back GLVC championships in 2012 and 2013.

Quincy also hosted a quarterfinal last season but saw its tournament run end with a loss to Drury at Legends Stadium.

Maryville is making its eighth GLVC Tournament appearance and fifth consecutive trip dating back to 2022.

The Saints have won the tournament once, capturing the championship in 2022.

Sunday marks the first postseason meeting between the two programs despite their long history as conference opponents.

Matchup Outlook

Sunday's quarterfinal brings together two teams with plenty of familiarity and little separation.

Their October meeting produced no goals, just four combined shots on target and a physical battle throughout the full 90 minutes.

Quincy enters the rematch with significant momentum, riding a four-match winning streak and three consecutive shutouts.

Maryville counters with an attack that has produced 35 goals and multiple players capable of finishing chances.

For the Hawks, maintaining the defensive form that carried them through the closing stretch while creating opportunities through Rheinheimer, Newton and the rest of the attack will be critical.

With the previous meeting ending scoreless, converting limited chances could once again determine the outcome.

Quincy will look to protect its home field, advance to the GLVC Tournament semifinals and add another postseason victory to one of the conference's most experienced tournament histories.

Kickoff between No. 4 Quincy and No. 5 Maryville is scheduled for 3 PM Sunday at Legends Stadium.
