QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team travels to Pittsburg, Kansas, on Wednesday for its first-ever meeting with Pittsburg State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:45 AM at Gorilla Soccer Pitch.

The Hawks enter the match with a 0-0-2 record after opening the season with draws against Purdue Northwest and Davenport. Pittsburg State enters unbeaten at 2-0 following back-to-back shutout victories to begin the season.

Quincy has scored in both matches and shown the ability to consistently create scoring opportunities, but now faces a Pittsburg State team that has outscored its first two opponents 11-0.

Last Time Out

Quincy earned a 2-2 draw against Davenport on Saturday after building a two-goal advantage.

Rebecca Rheinheimer opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 25th minute before Marina Oberschmid extended the lead early in the second half off an assist from Jessie Newton.

Davenport responded with goals in the 66th and 79th minutes to erase the Quincy advantage and earn the draw.

The Hawks generated plenty of opportunities throughout the match, finishing with a 20-13 advantage in shots and putting 11 attempts on goal. Rheinheimer led the attack with eight shots, including four on goal, while goalkeeper Devin Tracy made six saves.

Rheinheimer has now scored in each of Quincy's first two matches and leads the Hawks with two goals on the season.

The result moved Quincy to 0-0-2 heading into Wednesday's matchup.

First Meeting Between Programs

Wednesday's contest will mark the first meeting between Quincy and Pittsburg State.

Pittsburg State, entering just its third season as a women's soccer program, posted a 14-4-2 overall record and a 9-1-2 mark in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play last season.

The Gorillas captured the MIAA regular-season championship in just their second year as a program and earned their first appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Head coach Wes Branstetter enters his third season leading Pitt State and owns a 24-12-4 record with the Gorillas. Branstetter was named the 2025 MIAA Coach of the Year after leading Pitt State to the conference title.

Scouting Pittsburg State

The Gorillas have opened the season with dominant performances on both sides of the ball.

Pittsburg State opened the season with a 5-0 victory over No. 9 Missouri-St. Louis on August 27 before following with a 6-0 victory over East Central on Sunday.

Senior Ryann Caruth leads Pitt State with three goals and one assist through the opening weekend. Caruth scored the first goal of the season against UMSL before adding two goals against East Central for the first multi-goal performance of her collegiate career.

Two of Caruth's three goals have been game-winners, and her seven points through two matches rank among the national leaders. Her performance earned her MIAA Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Junior Carrie Cunningham has added two goals after entering the season as one of the most decorated returning players on the roster.

Cunningham was named the MIAA Offensive Player of the Year and earned All-Region honors last season after scoring five goals with two assists.

The Gorillas were selected second in the 2026 MIAA Preseason Coaches' Poll and return 19 players from last year's conference championship team, including eight players who earned All-MIAA recognition.

Experience in the Back

Pittsburg State has yet to allow a goal this season and returns an experienced group defensively.

Redshirt junior defender Sarah Peyton Webb has made an immediate impact in her first season with the Gorillas. Webb helped Pitt State post back-to-back shutouts while also recording three assists through the first two matches, tied for the NCAA Division II lead following the opening weekend.

Webb assisted on a goal in the season-opening victory over UMSL before adding two more assists against East Central. Her performance earned her MIAA Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Junior goalkeeper Jocelyn Kramar is also back after earning First Team All-MIAA honors last season.

Kramar has started both matches this year and has made four saves without allowing a goal. Junior Sabrina Schilt has also seen time as the two goalkeepers have combined for consecutive shutouts.

Pitt State recorded 10 shutouts and allowed only 17 goals in 20 matches last season, an average of 0.85 goals per contest.

That defensive success has carried over into 2026, with the Gorillas yet to concede through their first 180 minutes of action.

Looking to Break Through

Wednesday's contest presents Quincy's toughest early-season test to date.

Pittsburg State will look to improve to 3-0 while maintaining a shutout streak that has now reached 180 minutes. Quincy, meanwhile, will seek its first victory after opening the season with consecutive draws.

The matchup will feature two teams that have generated plenty of offensive opportunities through the opening week.

Quincy has taken 33 shots through its first two matches, including 20 against Davenport, while scoring three goals. Pitt State has been even more aggressive, firing 52 shots and scoring 11 times.

The Hawks' defense will be challenged by a Pitt State attack that has scored at least five goals in each of its first two matches, while Rheinheimer and the Quincy offense will look to become the first team this season to break through against the Gorillas.

Kickoff between Quincy and Pittsburg State is scheduled for 10:45 AM Wednesday, September 2, at Gorilla Soccer Pitch in Pittsburg, Kansas.
